Need advice for birthday gift

DS is turning 18. With the girls it was easy to get something special and long-lasting that they would remember - jewelry! But what do you get boys that is like that. He wants games for his XBox live - somehow I don't think that's something he'll be looking at years from now and say, "Mom and Dad gave me this for my 18th birthday"! He wants a new phone upgrade - no problem, his is due anyway.

But I want to think of something REALLY special that is lasting. Some of his friends get cars. That's not happening here.

We gave him a nice watch that he wears all of the time for his 16th. He has a class ring, He has traveled overseas with his singing group a lot, so he doesn't need luggage. He will be getting a laptop for Christmas.
