I have a 10 year old dachsund mix and each time we have been for his vet visits I've been told his teeth look really good. On this last visit, I asked again about his teeth and the vet said it probably wouldn't hurt to give him a professsional tooth cleaning. Due to his age, they said they would do a blood panel on him before putting him under anesthesia. I know there are risks, but several people have told me that the benefits far outweigh the risk. If his teeth were in really bad shape, I would definitely have them cleaned. I know that gum disease can lead to heart and kidney problems. I just worry about the anesthesia.
I guess my question is to those who have been in this situation, is it safe for a dog this age to undergo this procedure?
