I have the LG800 tracfone and just keep it on hand for emergencies.
It is not a smart phone which I did not want.
If you just want a phone, look at the LG800 and the newer model LG840.

I have owned several of them going back at least 9 years and probably as many different model and brand phones. We have always bought ours from hsn when they have a low price about the time our "12 month expiration date" is getting close. It is cheaper to buy a phone(and they are always an upgraded version) than it is to purchase minutes.
Right now my phone is a Samsung Galaxy Centura smart phone. Can't remember the last time I called anyone on it, so you can see it is not my bedtime and daytime companion as these phones seem to be with many others in the world, including my wife.
For what I paid for this phone it comes out to less than $6 per month and this phone will do it all, text/data and internet if one chooses to do those things. Me? While I am a techno-nut, I ain't into using mobile devices to get my fix. I have more than enough permanent devices in our home with which to satisfy may electronic addiction.
Right now my wife is using Virgin Mobile Plan that costs her $35 per month, and she cannot call from inside of our home with her much more fancy Samsung Galaxy SII model. She often uses my TracFone for these calls or drives a few blocks away to make a call with her phone.
Have yet to have a dropped call and my wife many times when she calls home loses the connection with me. Tracfone for me uses both T-Mobile and AT&T as the service providers and in our area there are none as good, much less better than my TracFone plan.

I've had a prepaid Tracfone cell phone for many years, and it suits me just fine. Can't stand being locked into anything, much less a cellular contract.
My favorite models have been from Samsung and LG, two great brands with quality electronics.
I think you'll enjoy the change, and it will surely save you money and frustration! 8)

Does anyone know when the next cell phone TSV will be? I've seen at least two this year, so I'm hoping they have another TSV before the holidays. I think I'm going to give it a try this year.

I don't know, but I read on a tech blog that Tracfone will soon have the newest LG smartphone. I've been trying to hold out for it. I love LG phones.

You are right about that. I do the same thing.
