Re: Need Ideas Please - Organizing Vitamins, Supplements, etc

[ Edited ]

I have one of those 4-week pill organizers, and that works well for me. I keep all supplements and vitamins in a box, which I keep in a dedicated "drawer" in the dining room buffet. (The cod liver oil stays in the fridge lol.)

Once a month, I remove that box and sit down at the DR table and fill up that 4-week pill organizer. This works well for me because I don't take the same vitamins every day--some I take M-W-F, some every other day, a couple I take twice a week, and some I do take daily. Each morning, I remove that day's vitamins from the organizer and place them in a little cup to be taken throughout the day--some with food, without, etc. (If I want extra C or D, in the winter, for example, I'll get them from the bottles in that box, and add them to that cup.)

Then I do the whole thing again in a month lol!

Re: Need Ideas Please - Organizing Vitamins, Supplements, etc

I have three of those " days of the week" pill organizers.  When I finish the third pill organizer I sit down and fill all three of them up again.  I'd rather do it for three weeks at a time than have to do it weekly.  Along with my prescriptions I also do all of my supplements in the same organizer.  That way I always remember to take my supplements along with my scripts.

My husband only takes supplements so he fills his pill organizer only weekly.  We keep all of my medications and both of our supplements along with the organizers in a small cabinet in our kitchen.  I know you aren't supposed to keep any medicines or supplements in the bathroom due to the moisture.

Some might think that doing three weeks at a time might be time consuming but actually it goes pretty fast.

In the morning I get out all the pills I take in a day and put them in a bright deep "kiddie cup" lid. I put my daytime pills on one side of lid and my night time pills on opposite side and set it on my kitchen counter. Before I go to bed that lid should be empty. In case we go somewhere... I have a tiny round pill container I keep in my handbag to take what I need them with me if necessary.

My prescription and OTC supplements are in a shoe box under my bed. I bought 2 of the 4-week pill divider boxes and fill one for morning and one for night.

I don't take enough to have to organize. So much is just eliminated by the kidneys so taking too much or too many isn't a good financial decision.

Re: Need Ideas Please - Organizing Vitamins, Supplements, etc

This is organized for me, but may not be much help for anyone else.

My supplements share my tea cupboard - cool & dry. Some are in a basket; some on the shelf -- those I take every a.m. I just open each one every morning. The one in the refrigerator is the probiotic.

There are a few that I take 2x (or more as needed) a day, so I just reach for those.

Sometimes my extra bottles get hidden behind things! I have to admit, I need a better system!

DH takes a different set of supps, so his share the baking cupboard. He knows where to get the "extra fortification" (the B12) in the middle of the day.

Re: Need Ideas Please - Organizing Vitamins, Supplements, etc

I only take a multivitamin once a day...it's on a lazy susan in a kitchen cabinet (away from the stove) with other OTC meds (cold/flu, antacids, Excedrin, etc.

I take 3 prescription meds--2 BP meds daily, 1 cholesterol med every other day. The BP meds I take in the morning, so they are in a decorative ceramic jar on the kitchen island. The cholesterol med I take in the evening, so it's in my nightstand.

I will NOT have my prescription meds anywhere near DH's---because he often does not have his reading glasses on when he takes his cholesterol med. He could easily take my meds because he can't see the label clearly. So his one scrip is on the kitchen turntable with the OTC stuff.

I keep all of my prescription meds, otc meds, vitamins & supplements in a Triforce Beauty case.  I have to take them at various times throughout the day so case is with me in whatever room I happen to be in.  I keep track of what to take and when to take it by alarms on my phone.

I use  two cases: one for RX and OTC. Then use the 2 ounce plastic cups. I put labels on the cups for  morning, noon, dinner, bedtime, with food etc.7C4E4216-2C89-4CDD-A5EF-991361EFA281.jpeg Not for everyone but the best for us. Tried the pill boxes, lazy susan, wall spice rack with door, etc

I need a better system. Some questions but appreciate any other input. tia

- Do you keep them alphabetical, by frequency (ie daily vs as needed), by type (capsules, liquid) or something else?

- Where in your home do you keep them since some need a cool place?

- What storage item do you use (ie cabinet, cupboard, drawer)?

I have two large plastic boxes with little compartments, one for morning, and one for evening.  I use them for both supplements and prescrips.

Fortunately for me, every one of them is unique and I know them on sight, so no chance of a mix-up with the meds, or anything else.

BTW .... I was wandering around Michaels several months ago, and they had a HUGE assortment of plastic boxes for craft items, sewing machine accessories and whatnot.  I thought they were so great I almost bought one I had absolutely no use for!  LOL    Woman LOL
