Re: Need Help Purchasing My First I-Pad

Also, if you want, you can go to apple online or an apple store in the mall, and purchase extended Apple Care for your iPad. It's costs $99 and will extend coverage for 2 years. I, personally suggest adding this. Their support covers assistance with hardware and software. If something breaks, they fix it. If you don't know how to do something, their tech support will help you. apple care also covers battery replacement, but a small additional charge will be added for each replacement of batteries.

There is a thread under the Electronics Forum that contains iPad tips and tricks. Every time I read it, I learn something new. Show it to your husband.

Hi, I looked but don't think I'm seeing that line. I see a couple with quick questions and limited replies, but I'm thinking you must mean a longer thread.

Do you remember the title of the thread you're thinking about? I could do a search on it.

Re: Need Help Purchasing My First I-Pad

I bought one last summer, and I opted for both wifi and cellular, but I think the cellular was Verizon. I haven't activated it yet, and I won't until I travel and want access where there is no wifi. I decided to pay the extra money at purchase because you can't have cellular added later. I also bought the 64 G because I thought it had less of a chance of becoming an obsolete speed for some applications. The Apple store near me gives free classes on how to use an Ipad, plus the Apple people will walk you through setting it up and setting up your wifi over the phone. They are very patient. You can take as many classes on the IPad as you choose to, and no two instructors cover the same things, so you get a wide variety of information. Incidentally my cellular allows me to activate and deactivate when I choose so that I am not paying a monthly fee when I'm not using it.

I first want to thank each & everyone for responding. I have made a decision & decided that the Apple WI-FI will best work for us. We don't do much traveling, so should have access to WI-FI most of the time. If we were younger & more savy on all this new technology, I would definitely go with both the WI-FI & the cellular. I ordered from BEST BUY this afternoon & just got a notice that it is ready for pickup. It is a 16 GB w/Retina. It is on sale today only for $356.39 including tax. I believe it is $70 off regular price. I'm excited - going to pick it up this evening & cable company is coming tomorrow afternoon to install wireless router. I just hope this old gal can figure it all out so I can get my husband started on it. Thank you again. Ya'll have definitely planted more knowledge in my pea brain than I could ever have asked for considering where I was when I asked for your help. HUGS!

Good luck. I hope you and your husband will enjoy it.

The person who installs the router should be able to set up your iPad for you to make sure you are picking up the WiFi signal.
