Nature's Clean-up Crew...please don't hate me

It's a different post today.  There is something dead in the lot next to us.  Don't know what, but please don't be sad as this is the circle of life.  The vultures are doing what they need to, and they are also magnificent creatures.  They wait their turn and share.

I love birds. Doesn't matter what kind, I just do.

I took an ornithology class in college and learned a few things about those vultures. They have very few feathers, if any, on their heads and they also have a 'collar' of feathers around their necks. Both of those features help them eat. Think about where they go in the carcass. Head feathers just get in the way and would collect stuff.  The collar keeps things from dripping down...probably TMI but it's interesting nonetheless.

Hate you?  Of course not!  It's interesting to see.  Next come the other decomposers like insects and microscopic life forms to finish the job.  It's nature recycling. (Hope it wasn't someone's pet.)

@SilleeMee  thanks for the info.  I find the vultures to be fascinating.  The acid in their bodies neutralizes disease, so even if they clean up a rabid animal, they will not contract or carry rabies, etc.
