@Plaid Pants2, what a strange comment to say over the death of someone, especially one that was a First Lady of the United States!Woman Surprised

Not really, it was  a very au courant topic while she was first lady- Lots of us remember it..when people die, we remember  their lives in their entirety, not just the sugar coated version..

She was a tough cookie - I'm listening to coverage and finding it amusing how many of those who surrounded the President were afraid of her....  she reminded me a  lot of my mother.  Not a great mother, but a tough woman.  (There were many who were afraid of my mother also Woman Wink

Sad news.  Sad day for California.  She was so elegant and lady like.  Truly a first lady.  I remember meeting her and she had such long legs and they were still attractive as a senor female.

She brought the old glamour of Hollywood to the White house and things sparkled for 8 years.  She will be missed.

just learned something new.   one year at the Gridiron dinner, she did a rendition of "Second Hand Rose", but she sang it as "Second Hand Clothes"  playing off her borrowing designer clothes from designers which attracted a lot of criticism.  Of course it is common practice today.  But she obviously had a sense of humour and called on her former acting talents.

I was never in political agreement with Mrs Reagan but I so admired her support for her husband and her tireless commitment to research on Alzheimer's. I'll never forget her use of the term, "The long good-bye." I may soon be facing the same challenges with my own husband and Mrs Reagan will provide the guidance I may well need.

Historians have been looking back at Nancy Reagan, viewing her actions more favorably. Her focus was always on her husband, his image, his legacy, his well being. She always worked towards that end, behind the scenes. The astrologer was for the scheduling of events, not policy decisions. It never would have seen the light of day if a man she managed to get fired hadn't written a revenge book. Looking back, historians agree that the man who took over, Baker, was better suited for the job.

She took a lot of flak in the public eye for renovations to the White House during the recession in the early 80's. What wasn't publicized/emphasized is that those renovations were done with private donations, not tax payer funds. The White House had not undergone renovations in over 20 years and it was time. Same with the White House China, something every First Lady chooses for the time in office. All of it was purchased through private donations, as it always has been and will continue to be.

Her clothing? Most of it was donated or loaned by designers. Smart move on her part and theirs. Even if it hadn't been that way it would have been Reagan money, not tax payer funds. I will not forget Nancy Reagan Red-a beautiful color that she wore well.

This is one of the saddest photographs I've ever seen.  I think we all remember it.

They truly had a great love.
