Party lines, no seat belts, Carter's Little Liver Pills, not being able to buy meat on Sundays or after 6 p.m., milk deliveries in bottles, staying outside all day without ever checking in with my parents, never locking the doors to the house, even when we went on vacation.

Raking leaves in the fall in the school yard during recess, to form a series of connecting squares on the ground that made our 'house' to then play house in.

Hopscotch and kick ball on the school playground for recess.

Playing with Barbies and baby dolls clear through 6th grade. Making food for the babies with things from nature, like dogwood petals and water for their baby cereal, and mashing berries from the evergreen shrubs in the front yard mixed with grass clippings.

Those poor baby dolls, but must have been the beginning of an all natural organic diet! LOL
