I'm a closeted opera geek and IMO there is not a more beautiful aria than Puccini's Nessun Dorma. There are many outstanding renditions but Pavarotti did it like no one else. Even if you are not a fan of opera you know this song as it has been in many movies.

here

I work with psych patients and every time I'm with one who wants to commit suicide I can't help think of all the things that would keep me from killing myself. Nessun Dorma is on that list.

I have a soft spot for this version... Mario Lanza... oh, my. {#emotions_dlg.wub}

Andrea Bocelli always does a good job on Nessun Dorma.

I grew up in suburban Philadelphia and my mother adored hometown boy Mario Lanza. I remember she wore out the grooves on The Student Prince

I'd always thought it was my mother who liked Mario Lanza, but my sister recently told me something I didn't know. He was my father's favorite. Who knew?

My father liked him too. I vaguely remember my parents going to a night club in Philly to see him in the late 1950's. I also remember my mother crying when he died.

It Had to Be You

Why do I do just as you say
Why must I just give you your way
Why do I sigh
Why don't I try to forget

It must have been that something lovers call fate
Kept me saying "I had to wait"
I saw them all
Just couldn't fall 'til we met

It had to be you, it had to be you
I've wandered around, finally found somebody who
Could make me be true
Could make me be blue
And, even be glad just to be sad thinkin' of you

Some others I've seen
Might never be mean
Might never be cross
Or, try to be boss
But, they wouldn't do

For nobody else gave me a thrill
With all your faults, I love you still
It had to be you, wonderful you
It had to be you

'Cause nobody else gave me a thrill
With all your faults, I love you still now
And it had to be you, it just had to be you
It had to be you

{#emotions_dlg.thumbup} Love Rod Stewart's version of this one--that raspy voice gets me every time!
