Hopefully this nonsense of 'diversification visas' will come to an end. They make absolutely no sense in todays world.
That program has been in place since the 90's. I agree to a point, but if no record is found, then what?
I'm sure my POV differs from yours but imo, diversification alone is not reason enough to gain entry. I heard someone say it's like winning the powerball lottery and to me that was a perfect comparison. If someone qualifies just because they're of a diverse culture, have no skills to offer this country, do not speak English and will no doubt be eligible to qualify for food stamp/welfare at the expense of the American taxpayer, we need to start using some plain old common sense and call a halt to this kind of nonsense.
I can agree with that. I also think we obviously need to keep better tabs on people. We find out ALL this info on them AFTER something happens.
Keeping tabs on what people? Average Joes like the Las Vegas shooter or immigrants from dicey countries?

I will always love New York City and commend the NYPD for their competence and vigilence, and kudos to the young officer who stopped the terrorist from hurting more people.
I love my hometown and go back to visit every chance that I get.

Put women in charge, we find out everything.
Or they'd just end up sitting around arguing about it.

Agree. Last I checked this was a free country and we don't "keep tabs" on people who haven't committed a crime. We have so many people coming into this country as tourists from all over the world. I guess we should also "vet" them before they get here and then follow them everywhere while they're here too. All without increasing spending.

Yes, I agree.

The first step is to get rid of that diversification lottery system. A program of that type makes no sense post 9/11. I hope that can be done immediately.

I see nothing whatsoever wrong with the diversification lottery system.

it's ridiculous to think we can't do a better job defending ourselves. we should always review systems/policies put in place over the years for efficacy/efficiency or a change in circumstances. bureaucracies often need prodding on just that. .... so now i read that Saipov was interviewed by Feds in 2015.due to suspicions of ties to suspected terrorists. we need to know more. "lone wolf" seems misused here.

I guess you've never heard of the NSA and how they 'kept tabs' on American's phone calls, illegally I might add. If my govt. doesn't have a problem keeping tabs on innocent citizens, I don't have a problem with them 'keeping tabs' on someone from a country with questionable ties to terrorism.
