I know it's strange, but there it is.  People actually do not like New York City, or the people who live in New York City.

What is your point?

How does this relate to the tragedy?

Nevermind.

I don't want to hear any more of this absurdity

I find your comment hackneyed.  You had your say, said you didn't want to hear any comments, and then got disdainful about the whole thing.  I'm making this comment for people  reading the thread - yeah, everybody saw this.

Of course, you're not going to see this comment, because you're tired of this absurdity.  I'm glad about that.

I live in NY and have never had problems with people disliking New Yorkers except.... on these boards. East coast people, NY, NJ, Mass. Etc. I have read it on these boards many times. Actually, from posters on this particular thread.

I don't understand it but there is a real hatred of NYC.

@stuyvesant- I've experienced just the opposite

I dislike people based on who they are as individuals, not where they live or where they're from.

@Greeneyedlady21- exactly!  New York represents America!  The diversity, success and wealth which was why the WTC was targeted twice and now again downtown.....NYC will always be a target and that's what they live with....yet, are strong, positive, giving people

If you want to be surrounded by nature, it's hard in NYC. If you want to be surrounded by culture, bingo!

I was born and raised in NYC but left to go to college and have lived in upstate NY for decades. I’ve also traveled extensively in Europe, where almost every young person I ever met told me their dream was to visit NYC. After 9/11, every American was proud to say «I am a New Yorker.” Growing up in New York, I met people from many countries, many religions, many family histories and cultures. It made me a tolerant person. I consider myself lucky to have had such a rich experience.

@stuyvesant

I totally agree I am born in the Bronx, lived in Brooklyn when I was first married now in Westchester. I have had times when I saw the hate, when I was out my area, I would say I lived in Brooklyn and I would get questions like how can you live there or do you carry a gun or were you ever mugged.

We haven't been sensible though, closing the borders, even temporarily might allievate our problem.

What do you mean by closing the borders?  No tourists, no business travelers, no visas issued for people to work here?

@Maudlynn- I think she means re inmigration, diversity visas....it's an old program and it doesn't work in Today's world....it's not political, well known people from both parties agree it should be discontinued.

Closing the borders and stopping these particular types of visas are 2 entirely different things.  From what I've heard, the lucky folks who get these diversity visas are vetted. Tourists aren't.  Shouldn't we look at tourists too if that's the case?  shouldn't we be looking at people from England, France and German since terrorism is on the rise there?  Perhaps if @SydneyH had answered the question, we'd all be enlightened to her idea.

What other type of profiling is there?

Distasteful is an understatement. I don't care what a person thinks of New York and New Yorkers, but to voice their negative opinion of them here, under these circumstances is appallingly insensitive. I might add.... ignorant and narrow-minded. Shame!
