I'm sorry that you are experiencing sciatica. I know how pain can literally disable you. I suffer from severe back pain and after 3 back surgeries the pain is still there. Get some good rest and sleep. We'll be here when you are feeling better. Take care of yourself.
@DbinMD ...I also had three back surgeries, all failed, that's why I continue to live with pain.

@Lindsays Grandma I hope you feel better soon! I also suffer from recurring sciatica and know how painful it can be. Please take care and do some online research about at home exercises you can do and supplements you can take. It's helped me a lot. Best wishes!

@SandySparkles ...Most days I can live with it but then there are times it flares up and it becomes difficult to ignore. It is still pretty bad but I'm not the type to sit around doing nothing so as you can see, I'm back. As always, you say the kindest things which is very much appreciated. By the way, in your post regarding our new dog where you referred to yourself as Aunt Sandy was so cute and I told Lindsay she now has an Aunt Sandy.

@Lindsays Grandma Awwww. Welcome back!🤗 Reading your post was such a relief, because I was very concerned about you!
Your sweet post wrapped a ribbon around my heart.❤ You are a woman of great strength, with a tenacious spirit to match. I knew you would not let the pain/discomfort keep you from doing that which you love; sharing joy, and wisdom with your forum family.😀
I humbly welcome the moniker "Aunt Sandy", with a big ole' smile.😁 It truly made my day!😉 Please say hello to Lindsay and Yuki for me.😊

@Lindsays Grandma - I hope you have better days ahead.
I, too, was diagnosed with this in April. I've been in excruciating pain since. I thought I'd pulled a muscle in my thigh, but it didn't go away. DH diagnosed me by showing me diagrams and said it would probably go away in two weeks or so. When I went to the "people" doctor we both see, he said DH was right! He put me on a short course of steroids and I had a period of glorious pain-free days, but the minute I took my last pill the pain was back.
I've been going to PT at our hospital twice a week, and doing exercises three times a day. It's not making a difference. Everyone, including my PT is advising me to get a shot. I'm a little scared but I'm so tired of the pain. Mine is down the side of my upper right thigh down the front of my leg.
I've talked to so many people who have had this. In most cases it went away. My two closest friends both had it for a short time- one when she was pregnant. Someone else had it six months years ago and has not had it since. I'm getting advice to go to a chiropractor or get acupuncture.
Except for migraines and sinus/allergy problems I've been pretty OK. So this is all new to me.
I really hope you feel a lot better now! It's good to know someone here understands. I will say a prayer for you.

@beach-mom ...Oh beach-mom I am so sorry to hear you are suffering with that awful sciatic pain. Did this just suddenly come on or did you perhaps do something that could have brought it on? Did the doctor take x-rays or do a ct scan ?
My pain is also on the upper right side but the pain goes down the entire back and side of the leg right through the toes. Now I have a long history of back problems, 3 surgeries that made it worse and in 2015 fell and broke the right hip. It is easier for me to understand why and where I have pain but with you for it to just come on, well, that's a whole other story.
The one thing I would never do was to get the shots in my back, just the thought of it turned me off. The area of the right hip where it was broken is also throbbing with pain so I need to get to a hospital for a ct scan. No more mri's for me unless I am sedated.
As for you seeing a chiropractor or getting acupuncture are two things I never got involved with so can't go there. I had 8 months of PT after the hip surgery and it did wonders. All of it was at home except of course when I was in rehab for a month after the hip surgery. What I don't understand is how can a doctor treat an ailment if he doesn't know what it is or how it came about?
I'm sending good vibes and lots of prayers your way and hope it gets better real fast. But again, I would like to know how he is treating you unless he can put a name to it., but that's just me.

Thanks @Lindsays Grandma - I hope you're feeling better today!
This came out of the blue for me. Here I was, looking forward to getting so much done at home- since I knew I'd be home for a while! I noticed a twinge in my upper thigh on the outside, and thought I'd strained it doing something. I'd done that before. Only this time it didn't go away after two weeks. It hurt so when I woke up, and that was completely new to me. I'd never had any kind of muscle aches before. It was in April, so our family doctor's office was closed. After leaving a message, I got a call back telling me to go to a clinic. The nurse practitioner I saw ordered x-rays. She already thought it was sciatica, as did DH. I received instructions to go to PT. A few weeks later my family doctor called. He was starting to see a few people and wanted to see me. He then gave me steroids.
I take only one prescribed medicine (for rosacea), and Excedrin for migraines. I can't take Motrin, so I've been relying on Excedrin when I have something important to do. I think my next step will be a pain management specialist and possibly getting a shot (even though I don't want one). I can't do anything- cleaning is almost impossible.
I asked my physical therapist, who specializes in this, what I could have done to cause this. Of course he said it's hard to tell, but he did say it could be from years of poor posture in different ways. Me? No way! Then I thought about how I slouch on the couch to watch TV and sit curled up in my chair to read. So - maybe!
Thank you for listening. It's good to know there is someone here I can go to when I need someone who understands!
