@Drythe I think that's a great idea, to call the police non emergency number. It would be great if they can help.

There is no doubt that the practical matters of this situation need better management. One can't look at it from strictly one's own life situation. Everyone's life situation is different, and everyone can't depend on friends or family.

Some people like to boast about how great things are here. But it took a situation like this to point out many flaws. Doesn't mean that there aren't great things about this country, just because one can see and acknowledge the flaws.

But if we can't face issues with supply chains, and issues with attitudes that people should just be able to fend for themselves, then we really are in deep trouble.

Anyway I care about the OP and people like her. That's what really bothers me right now. I've had my own problems getting food too. I am being responsible and not making trips into stores if I can avoid them.

Could you order from Sams or Wal Mart? I don't think they deliver fresh things, but I have ordered different food stuffs from them and they deliver to my house thru ups. Canned veggies and fruit, granola bars, snacks is what I ordered. It would maybe get you thrut.

Also on my local fb page, there are a few people going out to buy elderly folks who cannot get out what they are needing for free of cost, you just pay for the items you want. If you are on fb you may want to check it out.

There has to be a way....Do you have any friends who are still going out who could maybe help you with what you are wanting?

Also, @happycat, if @josie can find a nextdoor.com site for her area, I have no doubt that she could find people willing to shop for her. People are always offering on my local nextdoor.com.

I apologize if someone has already given her that advice.

@manny2 They will text you while they shop.

I have not experienced texts while they shop.  For each item their is a choice of Approve Best Replacement ot selct one in the app.  If they don't have the item i know when the order is finalized and they send you the receipt.

I have been ordering from Instacart for several weeks.  I use them for orders from Costco and a local chain market.  The only thing I have not received is eggs.  Keep trying - maybe try a different store.

Anyone who looks to China for a model to which to compare our response, has lost all credibility.

@RoughDraft

I did read her original post. She said she ordered 33 items and got 5.  I "assumed" she was talking about the present, not how she had been getting her groceries pre-virus.

Sorry if I misunderstood that has always been her way of obtaining her food and other essentials.

I personally had never heard of instacart pre-virus, only that some big stores, like Target, where you could phone in orders and have it delivered outside their door entrance. Kinda like when I was a carhop delivering intercom placed food orders.

Mea Culpa!

Well, @Moonlady, they just sent 1,00 ventilators to New York, and that is a credible statement.

The governor must be thrilled to finally get some response somewhere.

I ordered 33 items through Instacart yesterday and received 5....this doesn't even begin to show the first sign of getting better, if you do find domething somewhere the cost has tripled it is starting to get to me since I'm almost 70, can't get out, retired and a widow. What are we suppose to do...should we start buying food on QVC because we can't get it in the grocery stores?

Are you stating you have no food on hand or you didn't receive most of your order? Either way this is not a good situation.

Are you a Sam's Club member? I know you can go online and order for pickup. I think they have fruits, vegetables, meat and bake goods. If so, if someone could pickup your order it would be less expensive and more reliable.

I do wish you well and hope this situation can be resolved. Do you have family?

I am 73 and my son did all of my grocery shopping. He doesn't want me to go shopping. I am very fortunate to have a loving and caring son.

Go to the site nextdoor.com. You enter ur zip code and fill out a few pieces of information and u connect with ur neighbors. I've been on this site for over 2 years - and have been helped or given great recommendations. Now - there are many neighbors offering to help seniors or people who can't get out to shop.

I'm out of food too - and asked a neighbor who picked up a couple of baguettes and 10 boxes of Amy's frozen food. I have canned vegetables, rice and pasta - so I'll make that as a side.
