Re: NINETEEN TWENTIES' NEW YORKERS OUT FOR A STROLL

Thanks for posting these wonderful photos.  This is one of the reasons I love watching TCM.  I love how people looked so elegant and well dressed.  I miss when I used to go to the theatre or a restaurant in NYC and I was all dressed up and my DH wore his suit and tie.  Now everyone looks like they rolled out of bed.  I really miss those days.  Even when I went to work on Wall Street, I always wore a dress or skirt suit, high heels, jewelry, we all dressed up like in Mad Men.  I really, really miss those days.

@lovesallanimals - I worked on Wall Street also and remember wearing a dress or suit, heels, etc.  everyday!  When I retired, the dress code was business casual.  No suits for the men and women wearing crop pants.

@Oznell

Definitely taken before the 1929 stock market crash and the Depression.  I wonder if any of those people had any idea what was coming.

Re: NINETEEN TWENTIES' NEW YORKERS OUT FOR A STROLL

@Oznell   I long for the days when people actually start dressing again, but I am afraid we will never see it again.

The glamor of the 40's, 50's,and 60's was my favorite.

Rita Hayworth...Ava Gardner...Elizabeth Taylor

Audrey Hepburn...Marilyn Monroe...Sophia Loren

Brigitte Bardot...Jackie Kennedy...Raquel Welsh

Just to name a few~~~

Thanks for the wonderful pics of those well dressed strollers.

Re: NINETEEN TWENTIES' NEW YORKERS OUT FOR A STROLL

@Oznell  Notice the use of that shade of blue in the suits of the men in the first picture.

The color shows up again in the picture showing people lined up for church.

 Finally in the last picture the men in the top hats show the color again in their ties.

In fact the man on the left in the final picture had me taking a second look because he looks like Sigmund Freud, even though Freud only briefly visited NYC in 1909 before speaking at Clark University in Massachusetts.

Thank you for this interesting step back in time 🙂

@just bee,  and @on the bay,  good call, I do see both George Raft, and Al Pacino!

@spiderw ,  "Dapper Dans" is right,

and @lovesallanimals  and all of you who enjoy the standards of dress in the past--  so true!  For the most part, people wanted to, at the very least, present themselves *appropriately* for whatever occasion.  That's so appealing, and to me shows self-respect, as well as respect for others.

@twinsister ,  that photo of your mother in 1928 attire is such a treasure.

@Cakers3 ,   ha, Freud, absolutely!

Appreciate all who who shared thoughts on this.

I saw George Raft as well.  Great pictures, but I am happy that we no longer have to dress as formally.  We can if we want. I don't.

The photos remind me of F.Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. They were the ultimate 20's couple.

Re: NINETEEN TWENTIES' NEW YORKERS OUT FOR A STROLL

Thank you @Oznell  for this peak into a time gone by. Your posts never fail to delight. I love that it was colorized in a believable way.  Whenever I think of times gone by, my brain automatically switches to black and white. Now, logically I know this wasn't the case, but a lifetime of watching old movies makes me think it was a black and white world back then.
