NINETEEN TWENTIES' NEW YORKERS OUT FOR A STROLL

Never gets old for me--  videos or "newsreels" showing real people, doing ordinary things, in another time period.  NOT a movie.  Reality.  Even the "color restoration"--  normally, I'd complain about that.  But in this context, doesn't bother me since it makes the people all the more real and relatable.

Love the way the guy in the fedora with camel coat over his arm, is eyeing the camera!    He reminds me of someone.

It's the late 1920's and I think it's Easter Sunday, since people are parading in their finest, and also lining up at church, it looks like--

Stylish flappers with their escort on the avenue and their little dog.   Switch out their outfits, and they'd fit right in, in the 21st century.  Love the different expressions.  Human nature doesn't change...

In this video, "A Day in 1920's New York" you can hear all the random street noises and chatter,  church bells pealing, horns stridently honking.  Just a tiny slice of history...

To me, he looks like a young George Raft.

Re: NINETEEN TWENTIES' NEW YORKERS OUT FOR A STROLL

Wow no one looking at a phone, texting or on a call while walking through the streets!!!!  I like that!!!!  Dapper Dans and women wearing their dresses, hats, nylons and heels, so stylish. It is interesting to see how everyone dressed as they strolled through the streets.  Even going to a baseball game was a place to wear your best attire!!!!

Things  change as they always do, fashion has become more casual for most of us. However, seeing these pictures of a piece of life in the twenties is fun, enjoyable and gives one a smile and a nice feeling!!!  Thanks for sharing!

@Oznell,

Did he remind you of Al Pacino in the Godfather?

He did meSmiley Happy

I wonder what the men with all the hats and suits in the last picture are doing or where they are going. It looks like a parade.

When I see pictures even old ones I wonder if I will see someone I know. When I watch Woodstock films I wonder if I will see my sister.

@Oznell - I love these old time photos!   They remind me of a picture I have of my mother taken on her 16th birthday in 1928.  She was wearing one of those flapper type dresses.  Thanks for posting.

Fun to see & watch!  I subscribe to Glamourdaze on YouTube.  They have a lot of old videos that have been made to look almost like new.  I find it fascinating!

Re: NINETEEN TWENTIES' NEW YORKERS OUT FOR A STROLL

The original video was silent and in black and white.

It has been colorized, and a soundtrack was also created for it to help give the feeling of being immersed in history.

When I did research for one of my novels, I found an original video of San Francisco from 1905. There were street cars, horses, people, and a very crowded street. It was odd to know that those real people had no idea there would be a major earthquake there in a year.

I just finished binging on Downton Abbey.  It was interesting to see all the things that were invented in that era.....telephone, electricity, radio, autos, etc.

Re: NINETEEN TWENTIES' NEW YORKERS OUT FOR A STROLL

Thanks for posting these wonderful photos.  This is one of the reasons I love watching TCM.  I love how people looked so elegant and well dressed.  I miss when I used to go to the theatre or a restaurant in NYC and I was all dressed up and my DH wore his suit and tie.  Now everyone looks like they rolled out of bed.  I really miss those days.  Even when I went to work on Wall Street, I always wore a dress or skirt suit, high heels, jewelry, we all dressed up like in Mad Men.  I really, really miss those days.
