NEED HELP with taking apart Christmas tree

We bought the TSV Behlehem Lights tree in July. It does not work well, at all--- so it is going back. The UPS truck is scheduled.

My husband and I (seniors) BOTH twisting counter-clockwise and lifting up--- cannot get it apart.

I am unable to reach Bethlehem Lights for help, due to high call volume. I've tried 3 different times during the day.

Is there anyone who can give me some advise on getting the tree apart? Is there a button to push? Should we do something different?
