What was clear was that he walked right out into the middle of the track.
Hi scotttie,
I haven't seen any video but the "amateur" one shown shortly after the event. This whole tragedy is a shame and somewhat of a black eye to auto racing. Along with that it has ruined many lives on both sides of this tragedy.
Most auto racing organizations have rules for specific reasons and when someone decides to not abide by them? This whole thing makes me feel bad, almost sick, for everyone involved, including those in the auto racing industry.
Too many people have no clue what it is like to make a split second decision in a race car with limited vision and more than 1 thing going on simultaneously. Some seem to think a driver just sits there and pushes either the gas or the brake pedal and steers just like on a drive to a grocery store. If they only knew!

That should of been a rule a long time ago.
Hi, Everyone. It's been a while since I've posted, and it's nice to see some familiar "faces".
It seems to me that there are some things that should just be common sense...ie don't text while driving, don't use your hair dryer in the shower, and don't get in the middle of the track while a race is in progress.
I believe most race drivers know to stay in their cars unless it's on fire. They drop the window covering to signal that they're alright and then wait for rescue to arrive. Do some act foolishly? Of course.

He may have grabbed the wing...yikes?

I hope the above story is true.

To truly understand the dynamics of driving a sprint type car on a poorly lit dirt track, you'd have to have attended a race in person. You just don't get what racing them is all about unless you're there in person. Because of those big upright wings and the angle at which they race around the short track, the driver's vision is naturally impaired by these factors.
Add to this a car in front of you, really rather close to you, and a pedestrian driver heading toward your car, and who knows...
To really understand the dynamo that Tony Stewart is in a NASCAR car and what makes him the racer that he is, you really need to have watched him for at least one season, every Sunday or Saturday driving his #14 car.
Unless you've accomplished the above, you really haven't much to go on.

Thanks, John. I went away for the weekend and forgot to check back here. I appreciate your knowledge on this subject.
