A homeless former vet became worried about a woman stranded on the highway after running out of gas. He told her to lock her doors, then went to buy fuel for her with his last $20. He's a classic case of "widow's mite" giving, in other words, he's like the destitute widow who gave the most, because she gave all she had.

The woman, Kate McClure, paid back his twenty, got him warm clothes and gloves. She and her boyfriend have taken a deep interest and friendship in "Johnny", and are in the process of raising thousands of dollars for him to get a new start and apartment, etc. He is floored and grateful.

His current Go Fund Me account is about $261,000.00

Wonderful if true, but I wonder whether this is a hoax.

Go Fund Me is a credible business. Each donation is listed by amount and name of the donor. The funds are held by a bank. I don’t know about the story.
Go Fund Me reportedly takes 8% for handling and administration, LESS THAN most charities.

@OfCourse...how sad, but true. Scams come in all forms & in the day of technology in which we live, it is becoming easier and craftier. I would like to think this is a true story. ❤️

The article provided by @Oznell includes a link to the Go Fund Me account where anyone can see what the total for the moment is and names of donors.
I’m surprised people haven’t heard of GFM, it’s in the news often.

I read the article yesterday. I am hoping it's true, and not the 3 of them in on it.
Interesting the woman who started the funding, will control the money.

Guess she doesn't check her gas gauge.
What time of day was this? Why did she get out of her car? If I had seen that guy approaching, I would have gotten back in my car.
Didn't she have a phone to call someone?
Not enough details were given.

Daisy, the details were given, the article says it all. She thought she had enough gas in the car. My mistake, she was out of her car when he showed up, he made her get back in.
