Also remember that at most stores, plants are priced by the size and color of the pot they are in, an there is usually a "legend" somewhere, that says somthing like "Black 6 pack annuals $1.69, red 4 pack. $1.99"..
Many employees at hardware type store (I worked at one in high school) know very little about the actual plants, but just ring them up according to the "legend at their register....

It's true that poor customer service and lackadaisical employee attitudes can make shopping pretty frustrating sometimes.
On the other hand, it really makes superior customer service stand out -- and it does exist! Order a sandwich at Chick Fil-A and you'll see what i mean. They have the most courteous, efficient employees anywhere. Publix supermarkets are employee-owned, and the one in my neighborhood is a joy to shop. Their employees are always ready to answer questions, carry and load groceries, help me find things -- whatever I need. The other day a bag-boy was loading a carton of soft drinks into the back of my car, and we noticed a tear in the carton. He raced into the store for packing tape to fix it before it tore any more. I've been in several stores recently where employees have insisted on walking with me to personally show me where products were when I asked. It's nice to remember that good customer service still exists in some places!

I agree with you about Chik-fil-et. About 8 or so years ago I went in there with my daughter. In front of me was a girl in her early 20's and she had two small children with her. She went to pay and was about $5 short. Before I could even to offer to pay the difference the employee without asking anyone in management gave her the whole meal for free. The lady tried to pay what she had and was apologizing profusely. The employee said ma'am, it is our pleasure to buy your family a meal. There is no need to apologize. Please come back and see us again. I was shocked. I have seen people who are short a lot and never have I seen it handled so classy.
we don't have a Publix yet but I hear great things. I will pay more to shop at Wholefoods, FreshMarket and places like that because the older I have gotten, the more important customer service is very important to me.
I live right near a Food Lion and sometimes it is just easier to run in there rather than drive to one of the other stores. I curse myself every time I do that. I ran in for ketchup and mustard the other day and I remember why I hate them so much. The store is dirty and the employees sit there and actually text or talk to each other when you are waiting in line. They spend no time or money in showing the employees what is acceptable and even when complaints are made to management they don't seem to care. I swore this time no more. It isn't a once in a while happening, every time I go in there it is always something.

I can tell you exactly why there is no decent customer service now and stores are a mess. (My dh is retired retail). They have in place policies where the manager is only allowed so many hours to get the job done. If they deviate from that plan they are in trouble. No overtime allowed either.

I had a bad experience recently with Olive Garden. This is a restaurant I like.
I made a "to go" order with one of the snottiest people I have ever encountered.
Their receipt gave a website to talk about your experience, and boy did I!
The two salads I received had no dressing or croutons included, and I had asked for 2 EXTRA dressings.
My receipt had an order number, so the exact order could be verified.
I was most upset about the attitude of the person I dealt with on the phone. She was outright HOSTILE. I am always polite and prepared when I call an order in.
The next day, I received an email reply from the manager. She offered a profuse apology and sent me a $50 gift card.
At least they tried to rectify the experience.

My shopping experiences aren't that great either. Little to chose from, messy stores and not enough people working in them.

Well they should know about the products they are selling. Cashiers in grocery stores should have looked at the weekly feature ad and know what's on sale, they shouldn't have to hold up the line while they page through looking for it.

Understaffing is an issue but it is more in my area finding somebody to work!
I was in Ollie's yesterday and they had signs up for HEAD CASHIER..they said nobody applied in the three days it was up..they had ONE cashier open..and the line was literally fifteen deep!
A manager finally came up and opened up another lane themselves!
I like to put my stuff back myself too after trying them on but in Kohl's the other day they actually literally grabbed it out of my hand lol..I had to say ""wait...I want that one...""
I am not blaming O Care at all..as I have not seen any significant decrease ...more so it's been about the same..POOR!

Just found out Sears is closing here the Nordstrom's Rack is taking the space. This is not a place with a lot of shopping. I'm still surprised.
