Took the time to fill out the long applications (took 45 mins and screen froze, lost it all so reapplied from my old desktop). Two friends get the phone calls and give me great recommendations. Then I get the first phone call and find out the dog is the type who takes off the first chance he gets. Honestly, while the dog was so dang cute, this is not the type of behavior that will work for us since we enjoy spending time outside with our dogs letting them play and run around. I don't want to have to tie my dog or put him in a fence when we have 10 acres. So I had to be honest with myself, and fair to this dog. I declined this special pooch.

My sheltie and our adopted Am Staff, both of whom have gone to the rainbow bridge, fit right into this lifestyle. They stayed on our property and there was never an issue. When we were outside, they were out with us. I sure miss their company.

Anyway, then I hear from another rescue. Make plans to meet. Switch my work schedule at the end of the day to leave on time for the rendezvous. Drive an hour, sit and wait for 35 minutes and no one shows. Drive all the way home wondering if I'd been scammed. Ugh.
