I didn't know the self check was for small orders. Since I live alone, I rarely have a full cart of food anyway, so it could be relative. What's small for you may not be small for me. But this being the first weekend of the month, all the retirees, etc just received their check for the month and I NEVER shop at the first of the month.

Oh for heaven's sake. I can't imagine how so many of us casual readers have survived for so long. Maybe because we have built up our immunity over the years.
Do you know how long most viruses survive exposed to air? ("Death wish"? A bit overly dramatic.)

@MickD Please give your son a hug for me, this just breaks my heart, I am so sorry he has been treated that way!

You obviously don't understand overstatement meant to be taken as just that. I don't get colds, never had the flu, and don't get vaccines, flu or otherwise. So, what I'm doing works for me. Still, forget the germs, think of the saliva from licked fingers, the mucus from sneezes, and that's enough to make a public magazine unappealing to me. But then, I don't know your lifestyle or what sort of profession in which you're engaged.

I try to be patient while grocery shopping, but it is sometimes hard to do for many of the reasons that have been posted here. I put off grocery shopping until I have a mostly empty refrigerator.
I think the future might be different however.
I saw this app in the February instant savings mailer from Sam's. Available for Android or Apple phones.
1. Scan the items as you shop
2. Pay directly from the app
3. Show your e-receipt on your way out.
I might download this and give it a whirl next time I shop there.
I am sure this is where we are headed very soon at many stores. I think it could be tricky for produce (priced by the pound) though at a regular grocery store.

If those people have only a few items in their cart/hand, I'll ask them to move up so I can put down my items. Of course, they look totally confused and flustered...lol. But they do recover enough to move up, put down their items...and use the divider so I can put down my items.
My peeve is checkers who don't put the dividers back so you can reach them, especially if there's only one, so I can't start emptying my cart until the person ahead of me is done and the person behind me is held up too.

I had a checker chew me out for using a divider. I'm still not sure what her issue was and won't use her lane.

I just read the reviews on this app"Scan and Go-at Sam's" (apple store) and they are 4-5 stars. The only negative of the reviews said that you have to have your location device on the entire time. Yes, you would have to to get the correct price and taxes. I don't know why you can't just turn that off once you are done at with the shopping trip.
Mostly 5 star reviews!
I downloaded this and will give it a try next time.

That's weird. What happened that made her get upset over a divider?
Did you mention it to the manager?

Our self-checker section has an express aisle and the rest are all fair game.
