My poor window screen :-)

So we built a deck under our living room windows. Sounded like a good idea. Last night I left one of the windows open and one of my outside cats took it's nails to the screen and let itself in. I have one feral cat that is scared of me and the house. Not sure why it decided to come through the window. Cause then it paniced and couldn't figure out how to get out :-) Anyway, I love opening the windows to let fresh air in anmd now we can't open those windows. Anyone have any ideas on a type of screen I can put in there? Or how to keep them from ripping the screens?
