Back in the 70's when I was an adolescent/teen, the bomb threats would come in on the days of finals or mid-terms. They were done to get an evacuation of the classes and then a test or two couldn't be taken. Never made the news.
There were also a few school shootings but the targets were missed. Never made the news. That sort of thing happened beck then but it is now happening on a larger scale.
@Puzzle Piece , yes! As we were watching the evening news with all the local schools that had gotten threats I was telling DD this very thing. We loved a bomb threat in the '70s because we got out of class and it was never a concern that anything was really going to happen. These poor kids today ... it is heartbreaking the fear they have to live through.

It's happening all around our region too. One, somewhat locally, a few weeks ago, the little jerk turned out to be the son of a middle school teacher. Most of these incidents are kids being stupid, but all threats need to be taken seriously regardless.

We had a 12 year old, a 13 year old, and a 14 year old all arrested this past week for making threats against their schools. Even my very small town closed a high school because of a threat.

So sad @San Antonio Gal ! I guess better safe than sorry but it's not fair. Things are just crazy scary nowadays...

We live in very sad times. I must really be out of touch, I thought Homecoming was for kids in High School. My granddaughter is 12 and no homecoming for her Middle school.

@San Antonio Gal - So disappointing and sad for your grandson and his classmates, plus all kids around the country that have to deal with these occurences as their new normal.
Of course, it's better to be safe than sorry, but what a way to live.

It's sad, it's the times we live in. Hopefully it will be rescheduled. I never heard of homecoming for middle school kids.

It's sickening. It was phoned in bomb threats when I went to school.

It's awful and a shame. Honestly when did middle schools start having homecoming? I always thought this was for high school and college.
