Yesterday I saved a tiny baby squirrel from my dogs jaws. It looked to be about 2 weeks old...(google search).no hair and eyes were shut. I did not know what to do. My Husband thought it was a mole as it looked so odd....not like a squirrel at all.
...how my dog got ahold of the tiny squirrel is unknown. It might have been in the Mother's mouth and my dog chased her? That I will never know.
Husband said we should leave it outside....so the Mother might come back for it. We decided to put the baby on top of the woodpile cover...under a big fir tree by the fence. We have seen squirrels going up and down the tree so it was our best idea.
I also down loaded a U tube video of the sounds baby squirrels make on my iPad....I put the iPad near the baby squirrel and played the baby squirrel sounds....and I waited......suddenly a squirrel came down the fir tree and acted all excited hearing the baby squirrel sounds playing... she was running along the fence where we placed the baby squirrel.
I did not want to scare her away, so I went inside for about 10 minutes....when I came back out...
the baby squirrel was GONE❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. I did not see her take it, but, I can only guess that is what happened. I was So happy! I really think the video that had the recorded sounds of baby squirrels on it is what helped.
Here is what the baby squirrel looked like. This is a stock photo...not my hand. And here is the sound loop I used

@SeaMaiden Our heroine! That was very ingenuous of you to use the iPad squirrel sounds. I had no idea such things existed. That dog is certainly keeping you busy this summer.

Awwww. Poor little baby. When I read the part that said "husband said leave it outside" I thought, OH NO. But then I was relieved when I read the rest of your story. You are so kind to take all those extra steps. Who would have thought about using the iPad. Smart intuitive woman you are!

Forgot to mention that I rescued 2 small creatures that looked like your squirrel once. My dog had dug them out of a burrow and was "mothering" them. They turned out to be baby rats!

Thank you, Sea Maiden. I love critters, even the maligned squirrels. Our animal friends are under tremendous stress. Too hot, too cold, too dry: you name it with climate issues. Then humans take all their territory and want to eliminate wildlife that was there first. It is wonderful to hear about someone like you who makes a special effort to help our wildlife.

Looks similar to the baby bunnies when they are born. The don't have any hair either & their eyes are closed. Smaller then this squirrel.
Reminds me of the 2 kittens we had to bottle feed & find homes for.

@SeaMaiden How wonderful. Thank you for helping this wee squirrel. I'm sure his mom is blessing you now. This was the perfect thing for me to read before going to sleep. 🐿
