Yesterday I adopted Elaine from the SPCA here in Fredericksburg. Elaine is 1 year and 1 month old. She lived at the SPCA close to a year as she was brought there in August 2012. Elaine has been here a little over a day. I have her confined to the master bathroom as the SPCA insructed me to do. When she was at the SPCA she was in a group room with other cats to interact with. She has bed, food, water, toys, a feline diffuser(for stress). I go and visit her periodically to make sure she is ok. when I do she is usually behind the toliet. At that point I pick her up and pet her and talk to her. She lets me do this and enjoys being pettted.
I am concerned because she hasn't had anything to eat. I read online that cats can go awhile without eating food. I know she is stressed being she is in a new home and has to get use to the sounds and smells of the home.
I know that this will take time for her to get use to her home and to patient.
Then I will have to slowly introduce her to my other cat Mary. Wish me luck on this one because I have never introduced cats to one another before.
Do you have any suggestions for me regarding how to help her get use to her new home?
I thought I would post this to see if anyone has any helpful advice.
Thanks for the help.
