I just saw a commercial for my My Life while watching a Hallmark Christmas movie. I had heard of this website in passing, but never paid much attention. I decided to google my name along with my life and ended up on a page that was aimed specifically at me. It had pictures from my social media, my employer, my job title, names of my family members, addresses, and worst of all tabs to click on which state that I may have a criminal record and that I may be a sexual predator. It's obvious that this site is intended to lure gullible people into clicking on these tabs which lead to pages allowing you to pay to get people's background reports. I'm appalled not only because I'm aware that there are plenty of downright gullible people who would see this main page and assume that I may be a criminal or sexual predator, but because Hallmark is allowing commercials for this garbage on their channel. I feel like this is just low of Hallmark to promote such garbage, and I'm wondering what course of action to take to end this nonsense.

This sounds downright scary. The things that are out there are problematic and I shouldn't be surprised when I see them, but I am. It gets worse every day and I don't see any of it going away. The world has become dangerous and it saddens me. I think about my grandchildren and great-grandchildren and wonder what their lives will be like when I am gone. Is there a course of action we can take to end it? I certainly wish I knew of one but it will take a whole lot more than you and I and a few others can think of. It probably will get worse before it gets better.

All of the information is public record.
All the websites do is charge a fee so that the one who is doing the searching, doesn't have to go to a dozen different websites to find out the information.
So, while you may not like the fact that the info is out there, just know that it always has been, long before computers and the internet came along.
As I said, the info is just public record.
If one were to go to their courthouse, they could get the same exact information on anyone.

@Anonymous032819 As ALWAYS, you've complete missed the point which is that the website is suggesting that people may be sexual predators and directing visitors to "click here" to find out the truth. This is not only misleading visitors to spend their money to find information which probably doesn't exist, but misleads others who may not realize that they are being tempted by a a scam to simply assume that the person in question IS a sexual predator.

And if one has concerns that someone may be a predator or a criminal, all they would have to do is go down to the courthouse or police station to find out.
Again, public information.
The website eliminates the car trip.

OK......I just looked up MYSELF on My Life:
My birthdate is WRONG
My "spouse" has been DEAD for 20 years
They "guessed" my income and worth WAY WRONG
I have had 3 cars since the one they listed
I never heard of any of my "neighbors" except 2 that passed away years ago
My house is worth more than TWICE what they guessed.............

Exactly.
Which is why I refuse to become Chicken Little about My Life, and other sites like it.

I am not sure you can do anything. The net is like the wild west sometimes, and all you can do is duck..It's a shame, but ,I think this is something that the Gov should regulate. It's more than an average person could afford to tackle

The "stuff" they publish is PURE FICTION.

I totally aree with you! I don't see why Hallmark would even allow this rubbish to be on their channel! I, too, saw this website quite a while back and was disturbed by some of the things which came up under my name. None of it was true. Where they come up with this stuff I have no idea. It is slanderous. Anyone who knows me knows these things are not true, but just the fact that it is out there, is really disturbing and annoying to me. It should not be allowed to happen.
