Re: My Husband Spent 5 Hours In The Emergency Room Last Night

@NicksmomESQ, wishing a speedy recovery for your DH. I'm sorry you & your family suffered such a terrible ordeal.
Yes, you can still celebrate Hanukkah & be all together! That is a very painful disease but it seems that you know now how to keep it in control.
@henderson, wishing you a speedy recovery. Such a terrible virus that is causing so much misery. I hope you will rest & take care of yourself.

I will pray for both of you!

Re: My Husband Spent 5 Hours In The Emergency Room Last Night

Since October my husband has been battling bronchitis. This is the second year in a row he's had this problem. After two rounds of antibiotics and three rounds of prednisone , he was having a terrible time breathing. I took him to the ER where we waited 6 1/2 hours. There was no social distancing , no empty chairs, people were actually sitting on the floor.
When I asked at the desk about the delay , they told me they had admitted many patients to the ER because there were no beds available in the hospital, thus they didn't have too many rooms available for the ER patients. When they finally saw him,my husband was diagnosed with pneumonia and a partially collapsed lung and was admitted to the ER. Covid test came back negative. He's home now and improving everyday. We were told to quarantine since we might have been exposed to the virus. It's been two weeks so we are clear now! Thank God!

Why would the hospital have you sit in those conditions.  Since last spring every place has known the protocols.  I would report that hospital, they need to be shut down

Someday, when scientists discover the center of the Universe....some people will be disappointed it is not them.

Re: My Husband Spent 5 Hours In The Emergency Room Last Night

They opened up a few offices that weren't in use and put some patients in them. Short of sending people home or  to another hospital, they said there was nothing they could do. I must say the waiting room was very quiet for the amount of people that were in it. I went to the desk for a second time and said if my husband was home he would have been taking his breathing treatments which he needs. We are here because his breathing is not good. He's only gonna get worse if he doesn't get a breathing treatment. A few minutes later they called us in and the doctor was in with us examining him before the nurse did his vital signs or asked him any questions. I regret not doing that earlier. I assumed the triage nurse would classify his condition correctly and he would be seen in order of medical intervention necessity. This was not the case. Lesson learned!

@NicksmomESQ

I'm so glad you husband's situation turned out to be relatively minor and was released to come home.

I also understand the fear and sadness this dumb virus has brought us by not being able to be present in emergency situations for our loved ones. I'm glad your son and DIL were there for you.

I had to put my mom in an ambulance this year (A FIB attack) and send her to the ER without me. She was hurting and out of it enough that she didn't realize that would be the case until it was too late for her to back out, and was loaded in the ambulance. It was a long day waiting to get the call that we could pick her up.

Our ER experience has always been that any visit, no matter how seemingly insignificant, takes hours and hours. Sometimes up to 12 or more if being admitted.

I hope your husband is feeling better, I hadn't seen this thread and just wanted to offer my support and understanding for what you experienced. This virus makes the hard stuff even harder to cope with. Hope you are all doing well now.

Re: My Husband Spent 5 Hours In The Emergency Room Last Night

As I was reading, I wondered what it could possibly be. After seeing the diagnosis, it made sense. I had one bout a long time ago and it's scary but pretty easy to deal with. A bland diet Christmas isn't going to be much fun for him!
