My Hummers are back! any others?

Put feeders out Friday night after dark. and BOOM there the darlings were the next morning. so glad to see them. the one bully isn't here yet, so the visitors even perch on the edge of the feeder and glug away,,,and I mean glug and glug and glug. so glad they're here!

We have one hummer that stays all winter. Thinking he might be too old to make the journey? We leave food out all winter and have rigged a low watt light to keep the food from freezing and add a little warmth for him. This is the second year he has stayed. Earlier I did notice one hovering he might be new as the others sit and eat.

I saw one this morning, just over the fence - I'm sure there will be others; typically April is when they start to arrive here (I'm in southern California.)

I am so very fortunate that we see hummingbirds all year long. We are in the southeast valley of Az. from October thru the end of April. We have some bushes with red and yellow flowers that keep the hummingbirds happy. In our area, they seem to be a bit bigger than those you would see in the Midwest. They are a site to behold!

The hummingbirds in the city have reduced in population. We used to see them in the back yard all the time, especially around the fuchsias.

Very sad, we rarely see them anymore.

Re: My Hummers are back! any others?

yes! i was standing outside with my son friday afternoon and just like i always do i thought it was some kind of large insect flying around/over my head! i stood still and noticed out the corner of my eye that is was my little hummers. i can't recall the last year they were this early! it's usually around june so i have to get my feeders out for them because they were flying from one side of the yard to the other looking.
