@monicakm The details of that tattoo are incredible, so sorry to hear about your family friend, so sad and such a waste.
@Kachina624I am so sorry about your son, I am sure that leaves a pain in your heart forever.

@monicakm I remember you mentioning the death of your grandchildren's friend and yes, people don't realize how difficult it can be for young people to process something like that. They don't have the wisdom and maturity of life to rationalize it. I am very glad to hear that they are seeking counseling to help with those feelings - it's so important. Family can be supportive and a constant for them, but external people will hear what they won't tell you - and that's good.
My 36 year old son lost his best friend in a tragic pedestrian death at our local beach 2 years ago. He was devastated and he was across country when it happened. Believe me, we worried about him so badly. It has taken him a very long time to get to a comfortable place with it. Both of us will still cry over a memory at times - but that's a good thing.
Good thoughts to all of you...

@monicakm This tattoo will always be a beautiful reminder of what Ethan meant to your entire family. I do remember when you told us about Ethan and the devastating toll it took on your grandchildren, you and your husband, not to mention every person who knew him. The tattoo artist did a remarkable job depicting that moment they shared; such a wonderful artist. I'm thrilled he was able to use the same tattoo artist the Mahomes use. Such a great tie-in to your family's love for the Chiefs (gotta love them)! I even love the simplicity of Ethan's name. I hope and pray this gives your grandson some comfort, bringing his best friend along with him in life, as they had always done, now that Ethan isn't able to do himself.
RIP Ethan
I have read when the death of someone close to us strikes when we are young, deaths after that have a way of bringing back that initial, traumatic reaction. With life we tend to become more accepting of and philosophical about the finality of death. It's a good thing your grandchildren are receiving help to get them through this. Not only does that comfort them, it comforts you to see them coming to terms with this sad situation. Not only did your grandson lose a dear companion, your granddaughter chose him as her first boyfriend, and that also takes its toll. Take good care.![]()

@Kachina624 I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your son in 2006. It must weigh heavily on your mind that his 20-year anniversary will be here before you know it. Time has a way of sneaking by, but the reality of loss lives within our hearts no matter what day, or how long, it is. Take care.![]()

Thank you. I never expected to be so emotional when I saw the tattoo. It just brings back the afternoon when my grandson called me to tell me the news. I couldn't understand what he was saying and then I couldn't believe what I just heard.

Thank you @bmorechick
When Ethan died and I mentioned it here so many women had words of wisdom for Thatcher. I forwarded those sentiments to him. We never talked about it but I'm sure it gave him comfort to read the notes and advice written for him.
