Re: My Experience With The DMV

I'm sure you only spoke to people in NY state since you're located there. "I called an 800 number, who knows in what part of the country the call goes to."  I can't imagine any other part of the country would be taking calls for another state since it's a state agency.

If you're having issues where people just can't seem to answer over the phone, I would try to go in person and make sure to bring all important information.

Sorry they were rude and it seems that they are short handed and must be overwhelmed on their end.  Hope you get your issue resolved.

Re: My Experience With The DMV

Ha my NY DMV was home to one of the meanest people ever. All you had to say to anyone in the county was "that guy at DMV" and everyone knew who you were talking about. Only place on the planet you can be completely rude to your customers and keep a job for 25 years. I will say there were a few people over the years that were super nice but clearly it isn't part of the job description.

I use the online portal- frequently asked questions or chat.  Or use the Auto Club.

Re: My Experience With The DMV

I am the OP, I wanted to give an update, I unwittingly ended up on the wrong thread! I haven’t straightened out my problem yet, I called the DMV today. I spent very little time on hold, spoke to a very nice man who actually was helpful and respectful to me. He told me exactly how and what to do. I thanked him, said how much I appreciated his kindness and help. I told him about my previous experience how rude someone was, he apologized. I went online and made an appointment for April 21, the first appointment available.

Re: My Experience With The DMV

I'm the OP and finally went to the DMV today. They do not take walk ins, any business you may have with them requires an appointment. The line was short to get in, you check in and are given a number and wait to be called. I had an 11:30 appointment and got there at 11:00, I was out by 11:30. It is run so much better now, seating is limited. It is a far cry from when I went for my enhanced driver's license in December of 2019. The line outside snaked around the block, they couldn't let everyone in because of fire laws. You were packed in, lots of seats with people sitting on top of one another. I went with my sister and two nieces, we were there three hours. It would be nice if this is the way the DMV does business from now on.

Re: My Experience With The DMV

I only use the DMV every eight years or so if I need a new picture on my Drivers License... my car is 21 years old and I get new tabs by mail...
