Re: My Experience With The DMV

I prefer getting a root canal to dealing with the DMV....I am betting we all have our stories in dealing with them. And yes, I think being rude and condescending is part of the requirement to work there.  I would try finding the answers to any questions online....rather than being on hold so long. I think my next renewal date for my DL lets me do it online...so grateful for that!

Last time I had to take a day off from work just to get it renewed. The place was jammed with people and they had folding chairs shoved together. Three generations of a family came in and the grandpa sat right next to me...he was wearing a huge, long wool overcoat from the '40s and it reeked.....it was also April and 80 degrees...need I say more? He brought his lunch, too! Sardines; right out of the can...my expression on my DL photo looks like I am smelling that man's lunch. The guy who manned the eye test booth told me to read the letters....the screen was blank. Nothing. He stamped my papers as "failed" and I told him to let me try again...and when I did, he pushed a button or something under the desk and voila! All the letters appeared. Interesting...😡

Re: My Experience With The DMV

I don't think I have been to the DMV in probably thirty years. We renew by mail but have to send an eye Dr. form. I don't recognize myself in my picture, that's how long ago it was taken.

@lovesrecess  OMG.....just reading your post and all the things that happened to you that day, from the sardines to the blank eye screen, makes me think it could have been either a Candid Camera episode or a Seinfeld episode or something.  Lol. 😉

I would give everything I own just to have you back again.......David Gates of Bread

Did you try inquiring on the Costco website? I have had better luck doing that.

I keep thinking I've invested so much time already surely I must be next ( also it was important to speak to someone). The woman I spoke to was nice, no issue with her. Unfortunately she didn't have the answers for me, she transfers me to another department, I was on hold for over 20 minutes. This man that answered wanted no part of me or my problem. He then says he will transfer my call, I tell him I have been on hold for nearly two hours already, his response is that's just the way things are ma'am! I then am on hold for another 25 minutes until I get this woman, who was so condescending and rude to me, speaking to me like I was an idiot. I'm just wondering if being rude is part of the job description when you work at the DMV?

Around 2 weeks ago I called the DMV - they NEVER sent me tags for my car. I paid the bill and had my smog test in January --- couldn't reach a human. I emailed them and it said to call them.

I would think that working at the DMV and having to serve humans in their worst mood every day would be a recipe to develop a jaundiced view of people.

I relate to long waits to talk on the phone or in line with DMV people, but I've dealt with plenty of nice ones. Usually I try to do my business online, though that's not always possible. I find that with the DMV, when I respect them (and in particular their time, by either having all my documents ready to go or being apologetic when I missed one or didn't know something), they respect me back.

Edited to add: I don't mean to imply that you weren't respectful, @Jordan2. I'm sure you were. I was just relaying my experiences.

@Porcelain no offense taken on my part. I am not confrontational, I also start off saying, I know it's not your fault but...... If I ever do lose my temper I always apologize to the person on the other side. I can't understand why people go out of their way to be nasty. If you can't handle the job of dealing with the public, maybe you're in the wrong line of work.

@kaydee50

If you read my other post, I spent over 6 hours. Started in the early morning through close to the evening time. Yes, I have lots

of patience, but it runs close to empty when I get hung up on, not once, but twice. And from Central America! I know that because I asked.

I talk in a calm manner, much like I type my novels here. What I think is that they couldn't answer my questions, so CLICK!  😡😡😡

E.T.A.   Update on my CenturyLink service call. This tech knew me from being here before. He knew about last weeks fiasco with his company. He told me that technician WAS NOT a CenturyLink employee. He was a Contractor with another Company used by CenturyLink. He also said "he more than likely did not know how to do my upgrade in speed.

He was here a total of 90 minutes, in and out. He had to rewire a connector box a mile from our home, and also a smaller one outside a neighbors yard. So he was in his truck and in and out of the house.

He also, on his own, upgraded the wired pairs coming into the house that connects to the modem. Instead of just 2 single pair of wires, installed a much bigger cable, that held the same 4 wires, but were twisted(by machine) to make the whole cable much more efficient to handle the upgraded DSL Speed. Instead of just wires, this was an actual "jacketed cable".

Service could not have better and I am happy this is over. I now have Double the Download speed, and a 3 times faster Upload speed. What a difference a week made, and with a Tech that actually worked for the company.

Re: My Experience With The DMV

During the summer I had to go in to renew my driver's license.  I went on the CA DMV facebook page and sure enough somebody had asked my very question so I got the answer after a little reading.  I had something else I needed to find out so posed the question and "DMV" answered later that day.  Worth checking into.

It apparently is a part of the job description for many jobs. I had someone call me to try to sell me a different Medicare program than the one I have. I asked them nicely to remove me from their list as I was happy with my current insurance company and the response was F*** You and they slammed down the phone.

I always call our local office.

Seems there are so many rude and hateful people working in all of  customer service everywhere now!!

We used to have very rude people working in the office when you would go in there to get your license renewed but last time I was there

everyone was nice and friendly.

I used to work with the public and was never once rude or hateful to anyone!

Would probably have been fired if we were.
