I'm sorry, but that is too funny
My cat (and most cats) will go across the room and sit with her back to me when I make her mad. She is "showing me her back" or shunning me

I don't think dogs carry grudges or do things out of spite. People sometimes view dogs as humans and they are not. However, I do believe they remember quickly depending on how strong the stimulus is. For instance: You come home and the couch is all chewed up. You rant and rave at the dog who hasn't got a clue it is because of the couch. The next time you come home a chair is chewed up, the dog is upset the minute you walk into the door and cowers. You might think he knows about the chair. In reality the dog is associating your coming home and yelling because he remembers the last time you came home. If a dog gets into the trash and finds tasty pork chops or chicken, he remembers quickly and gets into the trash again because he remembers how good it was and it gave him great pleasure. Depending on the stimulus is how fast a dog learns and remembers.
I have a Border Collie who seems to remember everything. I must be very careful because of his memory because certain bad behavior will be repeated if left unchecked or he associates a correction or treat with the wrong response.

Repetition is the answer. Some breeds need many repetitions others on one or two.

The next evening, at precisely 8 pm he took off for the bathroom. There were no fireworks. It was about a week before he stopped hiding.
The older pup? I ran the water in the master bath to get it warm before giving him a bath. He'd never had one in there before. The next time I ran the water he took off like a bullet and wouldn't come near me. He wasn't getting a bath that night. That was ten years ago and he still does it.
Both of mine understand that if no treats are given in the morning then one of them is going to the vet. Neither will come near me and I have to do all sorts of antics to capture the victim so the harness can be put on his little self. If we sneak treats to one of them, out of sight of the other, that dog doesn't flee. All it took was one time for blood work years ago.
I can top that. My dog knows when we drive past the Vet Hospital. lol He starts getting all upset until we are past it.

I do not and will not ever believe that dogs have no memory. Many of our rescues remembered what scared them in their early lives and were afraid of it all their lives. If they didn't remember past a few minutes, how do they remember their owners who go off to service and return months or years later? My collie remembers the crazy dog who lives down the street and creeps along every time we approach its house. Not to mention that they know and expect to walk and eat before work and after work each day. How do lost dogs walk miles for days to find their home again? The list goes on and on, I think they have the memory of elephants!!!

They're so smart! Mine starts to whimper when we drive over the bridge about two miles from the Vet's office. He knows what's going to happen!

I think they have pretty good memories depending. My dog is sound sensitive. During Hurricane Sandy we had the weather channel on most of the time. We lost power for awhile, we had some thunder and the wind was loud. We were nervous also. Since then, anytime we turn on the weather channel my dog hides. It is kinda funny but I don't think it is for him.
