I didn't think the teller was doing something illegal --- I even asked her if there's a problem with my account. I've been going to this credit union for 18 years and never had a problem. Why weren't the other tellers having a problem? YES - I did get a printout of my deposit and balance - which I will keep forever.

When B of A started treating my husband like one, wanting 3 forms of ID from him before they would give him any cash back from his pay check we closed all our accounts with them.
My last name is not very common. That thought crossed my mind -- was my account flagged?

I'm retired now, but worked in banking for over 40 years. If you don't think you're being treated fairly when you cash a check or make a deposit, then why not talk to the branch manager? Explain the situation and ask if there is a problem with your account, or if there are procedures or policies that you aren't aware of. Is the teller being rude? I can't imagine that a customer would be asked for 3 forms of ID to make a deposit/get cash back.

@kivah how do you know that everything was ok with the other computers? You have a printout so hold on to it forever even though the deposit shows up.

If the cash deposit was $10,000. or more, or if you have made similar deposits within the past year, yes, the transaction would be flagged to be reported to the government.
Laws were enacted to cut down on money laundering, tax evasion, drug dealers, etc.

Even if the computers are down they can do a deposit transaction and give you a dupe receipt. I worked as a teller in the dark ages and we were offline at times. We did not inform customers that "the computers are down". We didn't want a run on the bank! We just went through the motions, gave them a dupe receipt. Same for withdrawals. We did have some passbook holders who would come in just for the interest to post on their books. this was in the days of 5 1/2% savings interest, 19,20% CDs. the manager would dust off her calculator so the customers could see what their earnings were. The 1st and 3rd of the month were a ZOO if we were down that day.
Always count your withdrawal money at the window and watch the tellers count the deposit

As long as you got a receipt, everything will be ok. You will be able to show your deposit with that receipt, if there is ever a question.
