It was rotten.  But, it's a big corporation and they ruined so many lives - she was single, but she saw young men being escorted out who were crying.  She knew them and knew that they had children, had just bought a house, a new car, all thinking that they had a secure job.

It was an awful time and of course, being the largest employer in our area, the most that was said on the news was that they were laying people off.

The big boys got huge, million dollar raises though.

Just one word, sad.

Re: My Company's personal holiday gift...Get Ready

UPDATE

So I walk in this morning and I have a card AND gift card from the manager whose location I work out of.  I received a thank you note and a Visa gift card fresh off the register line.  LOL

Some people know how to do it right when you're gonna do it.    And no I didn't mention the other gift at all to anyone nor did I ever expect this one since this manager is kind of new.

The other gift is still in quarantine at the house. Smiley Very Happy

When I was working my employer gave us a certificate for a free turkey at the local grocery store. I would always donate it to the nuns at the convent next door to the hospital,ad did many other employees. The nuns used them to make a Christmas dinner for the homeless in our neighborhood.

My company gives us all the week off between Christmas and New Years including all day Christmas Eve. We are still paid in full.  I think this is a wonderful Xmas gift.  This is in addition to my paid vacation time.

@culebra, that is really nice.

I know someone who is off the entire week of Christmas and New Years.  When she leaves work Friday,  she doesn't go back until the 8th.  It is also paid for her and in addition to her paid vacation.

I know someone who used to work for Honda and they had to take these 2 weeks off.  It was mandatory because they were on shut down but it was deducted from their vacation time.

I haven't worked for some time, when I did work full time most was in retail which you got zero. when i worked for a family company for 3 yrs they did give out some money for gifts which wasn't bad.

My husband is still working full time. they use to have xmas parties for families but that was stopped many years ago. Now his company gives a couple extra days off with pay over the holiday season which to mean isn't bad,

Who remembers the story about Oprah and gifts? One year she gave cars to every single member of her audience. And, do you know what. Many of them griped because they had to pay gift taxes on the cars. It was a big dust up. I don't believe she had ever given out anything substantial since.

Re: My Company's personal holiday gift...Get Ready

I was head of an academic advising department at a large university. I was given a measly allocation for bonuses so I never took one for myself. It seemed so petty to reward myself; I could never do it. I was no martyr but I disliked the miserly lack of recognition displayed to me and my colleagues for the 35 years I worked there. I always got top ratings on my reviews but only once got a bonus from the higher-ups. On the other hand, I often received wonderful cards and gifts from my students. Their acknowledgement meant everything to me. I have a huge box at home where I keep all of the wonderful cards and letters I got. I retired in 2008 but just received an email from a student whom I helped many years ago. It was so sweet...made my day!

I was thinking about this , this morn while cleaning. 3 gift cards that were dirty and 1 of the 3 gift card with $14 and change left over.

I was struck how stingy, how awful, how deplorable. Not getting new cards, and giving out used one at that. That is plain lazyness.

You have to wonder if she gives you used cards wonder what she does for family members for gifts.  Wouldn't be surprised if she regifts

@viva923  How true!  One of the many things to be grateful for.   My family has not stooped that low yet.  I was forgotten one year for my one and only gift since the adults do Secret Santa every year but I never got a used gift.  Ever.
