@Liverbird1 The only thing I can say is thank goodness we are not out looking for work. Some people would do anything to be working and have food for their family.....we should look at it that way.

Yes Panda you are probably right to look at it that way .That is probably why I have worked with this co for 7 yrs .Things can always be worse .

I haven't received a holiday gift from my place of employment since the 1990s.  Back then, I worked for a private company.

We had a big blowout Christmas party every year. They usually had it in the ballroom of a big hotel, and it was catered by an upscale restaurant.  Alcohol and live music included.  The big deal was buying your outfit to wear to it.  They usually gave out individual little gifts, like ornaments, at the party, and hidden inside was cash...usually $100.  

We had a big tree in the office and did the Secret Santa thing.  Every Friday during the holiday season, the CEO would bring in wine and beer at about 4pm, and we'd have that along with all of the food gifts from clients that had come in.

Along with that, we usually got a couple of bonuses throughout the year, depending on how well we were doing.  Those ranged anywhere from $500 to $1000.

That was in the "good old days."  I highly doubt even this company does that anymore.

I work for the local food bank, full time. Received $50 bonus, a $25 gift card from the CEO, and a lovely lunch buffet with a gift exchange. This is a NON-profit organization. My benefits are wonderful too. It’s been my experience that some of the largest, richest companies I’ve worked with had the cheesiest holiday gifts/parties.

ETA we devote over 98.7 percent of proceeds to programs, so we’re not robbing the coffers for bonuses!

Previous post was a good one.

Bad one: worked at an ad agency, crazy deadlines, lots of overtime without pay. Holiday bonus for all the designers was $10 bill cash in an envelope. My coworker opened hers in front of our boss, looked at it, pretended to trip and said ( with straight face): “Oops, I dropped my bonus and it rolled under your desk.”

I know you and your husband must have been devastated.  My sweet daughter was both devastated and humiliated, and not just for herself, for all the others being escorted out.....grown men crying, families ruined.    She worked for a large corporation that builds jets ...one of the largest, if not the largest in the world and certainly the largest employer but not the most stable place to work.  

My daughter has been out on her own for some time and was supporting herself nicely.  She has a college education and did find another job but she still tears up when her callus dismissal is discussed.  

She learned a valuable lesson.......it doesn't matter how much education you have, how hard your work, how much of your own time you give to a corporation, it's not what you know, it's who you know.

It was rotten.  But, it's a big corporation and they ruined so many lives - she was single, but she saw young men being escorted out who were crying.  She knew them and knew that they had children, had just bought a house, a new car, all thinking that they had a secure job.

It was an awful time and of course, being the largest employer in our area, the most that was said on the news was that they were laying people off.

The big boys got huge, million dollar raises though.

For real: my cousin (female)got a gun. She was working for a libertarian non profif in Erie Pa. I was speechless when she told me. I know my cousin never owned a gun and is anti gun.
