@Jordan2 - I played this game with TWC a few months ago. When I finally called and asked them cancel my service as of a certain date, THEN and only THEN did they come up with a spectacular, super duper low rate - I nicely told them no thanks where were you for the past couple of months - shut it down - They are the only game in town here and they know it - we went with ROKU which includes Netflix, Hulu and other stuff - BTW - TWC service isn't all that great to begin with!

That's a problem when they have a monopoly.

Before I moved, TWC was the only game in town for many years. Ongoing customers got NO breaks. Then U-Verse came to town, and when I quit TWC for U-Verse's great 2-yr deal, not one person or a single email, postcard or phone call from TWC that said "come back." Not one. Weird.
My 2 yrs was just up and my bill went up about $75 for TV, internet and phone. But I just moved, and we have DirecTV, which is okay - and now all those who had U-Verse, at some point won't have the fiberoptic-type/special reception that made U-Verse more desirable than TWC in the first place.
I would love to see people buy boxes that let you pay by channel, period.

Our COA had TWC and nothing but complaints----the high prices, the service was AWFUL (always going out), and RUDE customer service.....a maverick cable company offered our COA a deal with a lower rates than Time Warner , they showed us the channel lineups and options, and promised stellar customer service. And they have delivered --- yes, we did get a rate increase but it was only $13 but extra channels were also added so I can't complain. I pay $124 for the ultra premium lineup, and this price also includes the extra Ultra sports tier which I wanted (with the NFL Network, Red Zone, The NBA Channel, and several other sports related channels)---but does NOT include HBO, Showtime, Starz etc...Seeing everyone elses prices, looks like Im getting a pretty good bargain ![]()
As far as Hulu, Roku, Net Flix and Slingo TV----you have to use several types of equipment to get an equivalent channel lineup, besides these options you need to get an antenna to get local broadcast channels or regional channels and sports channels. ....Too much equipment for me! And they warned you need to have an excellent internet service to handle all the streaming you will do and hope that they don't have a max limit on data.....so in the end how much are you going to save unless you really limit your TV selection....But one thing that was mentioned was the savings they realized in switching to Slingo TV was their electric bill because the cable box takes a lot of energy since it's always on.....and that is where she really saved!
But I think ALL these companies have us over a barrel....If you switch from cable to The Dish or Direct TV they are always threatening to pull channels (and its always the important ones ---your local channels or ones everyone watches), then there is a big campaign that the customers have to call in "to save your channel"---and hope they keep the channel.....

@wilma wrote:We also have TWC. We negotiated our bill down recently by threatening to switch. We gave up a few channels too that we rarely watched. What irks me is you have to get certain packages. I may want one channel but I have to buy the whole package to get that channel. I think the prices the cable companies and others are charging for TV and movie channels are ridiculous.
It would be nice if you could pick and choose the channels you want. The only thing with that is there would be channels would go by the way side, people would lose their jobs. I guess that's why the cable companies bundle the good channels with the clunkers.
@Jordan2 There is another thread and in it I posted information that explained a study was done and they said the ala carte pricing wouldnt work, because if you wanted a channel that did not have that many subscribers it would cause the fee to go way up for that channel (an increase of 103%) now if you chose the popular ones and no sports, then you might save money with the ala carte plan....and cable companies would lose money so lose/lose for both cable and consumers and that's why no one is offering it......I think one company even experimented with it....

Funny that you posted this. I have been with TIme Warner for 27-years and it keeps going up and UP...we have the High Speed Internet, Phone and of course a gazillion channels.
I went to get my new phone that was released on Friday ..and they of course recently or recent to me lol acquired Direct TV...they talked me into a package deal..(which wasn't hard to do..we were interested anyway)
With the deal we each got brand new tablets that matched our phones, I got a $45 tempered glass cover for my phone and a $30 case for free..with signing up for Direct TV we also received a unlimited data plan for our phones..and Digital LIfe Home Security System..a billing credit for one year to offset the landline cost..and in two-years when all the billing credits/rebates end..they told me to call tell them you are going back to Cable and they will jump to offer a deal.. Plus more channels then we had at the tier ofTWC and we had everything! This included five TV's..1 Genie (satellite box..) and 4 mini Genie's..they hooked up for free.. Savings for us was well over a hundred dollars a month! That includes paying premium to TWC for the internet/RoadRunner that I want to keep..we have the highest/fastest speed.
I have heard many complain about all the problems with Satellite with the pixils going out in storms etc..we have netflix and Fire Stick so there are options if that happens. I just had enough with Cable..the fees/taxes was outrageous each month in addition to rate hikes every time I turned around!
So we shall see how it goes. I only watch the news..I am not a TV watcher as I have a very odd schedule..but the family does.
TWC will offer new customers the sun and moon to come over..and then they really sock it to you when they can!
AT&T just made it easier lol..we were interested but just didn't take the time to call around and negotiate a price for Satellite..
Over $100 a month in my pocket is worth a risk on tv lol..plus all the upgrades and free gifts made the deal sweeter..sure we all have Tablets now..Kindles..etc..but if you are going to switch anyway ..why not take them lol...
I was told when your promotion is up..call them and tell them you are looking to go back to Cable or the opposite Satellite provider in this case ..Dish..and they will offer you another package..If by some fluke they refuse...well Dish here I come lol..

This is exactly what I did too. I had called TWC several times about lowering my bill....one time they said they couldn't lower it, the next time they said I could be on a lower tier and save 10 dollars a month. What a joke. I called them back and asked where and when I could turn in my DVR box and that I was cancelling. THEN AND ONLY THEN we're they willing to work with me but by then I had purchased my Roku and joined Hulu and Netflix. I love it! Best decision I ever made.

Oh goodness.
Anything that starts out with "My Cable Provider" cannot be good! LOL!
I have had to deal with Comcast for my elderly Mom, and then Mediacom for my house.
SO, what's that saying about the definition of insanity?

OP here. After being on the phone yesterday with TWC to adjust my bill I was promised it was good, guess what it isn't! I checked on line and it was lowered but not to what I was quoted. I had to call again today. She told me it was fixed, but I'm not going to believe it yet. Oh, and yesterday TWC called for me to take a survey on their service! I didn't answer the phone t

Oh no @Jordan2
Once it starts it's like a big abyss that one falls into! So sorry, what a pain!
