Despite the fact that he's trying to bring the back yard into the house, one tail-fill of dirt at a time, I love this kitty so much that yesterday I bought and planted about a dozen catnip plants, in the blazing sun. I didn't even have the first one planted before he was out there, mrrrrring and rolling around.
They're perennials but I don't know if he and the neighborhood cats will wear them out before they can re-grow next year. What can I say? I'm a fool for love.

You can snip or pick some and dry it. then you can put it in old socks. they will be great toys all winter. fun to give as gifts too.

I didn't realize you had changed your screen name. I tried planting catnip several times, but "somebody" always tore it out of the ground and ate it before the plant had time to grow. With my two indoor only cats, dried catnip will have to suffice. I find that cats particularly like the brand Cosmic Catnip.

I have only had one cat of all that I have owned who was not affected by catnip in the least. I finally asked the vet about it, and he said she didn't have the gene that causes the effects. My others all reacted in varying degrees, from just liking to roll in it to going absolutely wild and then lying in a stupor afterward. Two of my cats used to fight over it. I have a photo of my Riley with the Cosmic Catnip bowl half turned over, his fur covered with dried catnip, and his eyes glazed over. He was definitely a nip head. I could not keep any in the garden because he uprooted it and ate it down to the roots. Once I put a plant on top of the refrigerator, not showing him the greenery. I came in later to find him on top of the refrigerator chomping away on it. I gave up with the planting after that. He could smell it a mile away and would stop at nothing till he found it.
