Most of us have used neither.
I cannot imagine. I don't want to imagine.

@SeaMaiden corn cobb? How? lol. Do you mean corn husk? That´s sort of silky so it might work. I think they sell the husk also.

When in a jam, some use the empty toilet paper roll.

@PA Mom-mom wrote:@Mz iMac My grandparents' outhouse had Sears catalogs, corn cobs and toilet paper. You pick your favorite. I remember being noticing when we would drive in the driveway only to find my grandmother had forgotten to close the door when she entered!!
@PA Mom-mom, I doubt she forgot to close the door she just wanted to be able to breathe.

My 93 year old mother grew up in Brooklyn , so there were no outhouses (I'm calling her tomorrow and will ask) but I remember the old fashioned WC with the pull chain at my grandmother's.
My grandmother lived on Rivington St, the lower east side of NYC. Her bathtub was in the small kitchen - with a metal cover. She had a tiny bathroom and the toilet had a pull chain (no sink). There was a bathroom in the hallway - on each floor, of the apt building, She lived on the top floor, 3rd floor. I grew up in Brooklyn and there were no outhouses.
