If you live in true winter weather, then a travel blanket, jumper cable (or some type of battery charger), several bottles of water, spray can of de-icer, strong flashlight, a small bag of kitty litter, and a handwritten note to ALWAYS keep his gas tank no less than 1/2 full in the winter. Forget the box of kleenex and wipes to clean your dash!

I have one  envelope containing:

 

several of my insurance agents cards... ( in case of an accident)

 

a pen and paper to write on...

 

several 3x5 cards with all of my information on them ....( in case of an accident)

 

and,my proof of insurance and car   registration. 

 

When I am not in the car, I keep this envelope with me... in my purse... or at home....I never leave the envelope in the car 24 -7. That way, if the car was ever stolen, my personal info would not be in the car( my address etc.
