Re: Music question....Do you remember the 1st 45 rpm or albumn you ever bought?

@just bee   When you mentioned your mother and Little Red Riding Hood it reminded me of my mom.  She had a lot of teenagers in the 60s and 70s, and listened to a lot of our music because there was always a radio on or a stereo going.

One day she was at the sink and bopping along to the Raspberries and said "I like this song!  It has a good beat!'   The song was "Go All The Way".

We told her to pay attention to the lyrics.  She yelled OMG!!!  and ran out of the kitchen.

My first 45 was "Go Away Little Girl" by Steve Lawrence.  My first album was "The Beatles Second Album".  I didn't get "Meet The Beatles" for a few months later!

Re: Music question....Do you remember the 1st 45 rpm or albumn you ever bought?

I really don't, but I can recall some records I got as gifts. My brother gave me the 45 of Different Drum by Linda Ronstadt. I got John Denver's album Annie's Song for Christmas one year. Boy, did I play those.

I assume this was a gift for all us kids, because one year we got a stereo on a rolling stand with room on the bottom for album storage. That was a really big deal. It could play a whole stack of records. We used it a lot, and by the time I tossed it out decades later, it still worked but I couldn't get needles for it.

That was one I had to have or I swore I'd die. Luckily, I got it.

Re: Music question....Do you remember the 1st 45 rpm or albumn you ever bought?

This thread inspired me to get out my old 45s, tucked away in a cabinet.  Whew, what a walk down memory lane. I don't remember which 45 was my first, but there was a really old looking one in there by Debbie Reynolds - "Tammy" from the movie Tammy & the Bachelor.  LOL that was definitely before all of the others that were from the 60s - a lot of Beatles, the Byrds, the Troggs (Wild Thing), the Mamas & the Papas, Donovan, Dusty Springfield, Chad & Jeremy.  Prices ranged from 69 cents to 99 cents ha.

I still have my old LP vinyls as well.  Not sure which is the oldest, but I do remember how excited I was when our family finally bought a "stereo" and I could finally buy albums.  I guess I was about13 at the time and the little record player I had up till then didn't play at that speed.

@qualitygal  I know I didn't buy it myself, my mom bought it for me. I was VERY young. The Hully Gully. Had so much fun doing the line dance to it with my cousins. Both my mom and dad encouraged music, dancing and singing in our home. I was lucky that way.

First album that I bought was the Beatles.

We had tons of 78's, 45's and albums at home. Good old days for me.

I can't completely remember but I think it was "Tiger" by Fabian.   He appeared on stage with a few other singers at our local movie theatre.  I always thought that he was so handsome.

I went with my older cousin to see him perform and we had so much fun.  I remember my Dad dropping us off and later picking us up.

Since I was from PA and Fabian was from Philly that made it all the more special.
