Re: Music in Stores, Pro or Con?

A few thoughts- most millenials, and younger, have poorer hearing than folks older than they are, because of injudicious use of amplification, so if you are around retirement age, everything you hear WILL be unnecessarily loud for you.

Second, the use of music as a selling tool became popular when recorded music was a novelty, so it added to the ambience to purchasing. Since the prevailing attitude toward buying/selling appears to be moving toward "take it or leave it", don't expect too much enthusiasm for complaints about the tastes of the music choosers, OR the volume level. Won't happen.

It might be a good idea to buy stock in hearing aid companies, because of all the young people loosing their hearing due to loud music.

I do wish all Dr offices had soft music.  Sometimes the total silence with a lot of people feels awkward .

@Plaid Pants2 you are correct! and a ton of advertising for hearing aids is aimed at seniors, but as volume levels rise for younger people it will become easier and not harder for older people to hear because EVERYTHING will be getting louder!

Re: Music in Stores, Pro or Con?

I work part time in a small store and I crank up the music.  From soft rock to country.  My customers are mostly in the older group and I've had some tell me they wanted to stay longer because of the music.  I change it out every so often so I don't get bored.  It certainly puts a spring in my step!

Re: Music in Stores, Pro or Con?

I like nice soothing music when I am grocery shopping, as I am usually on the run when I shop. I don't care what kind genre of music it is as long as it is not hip hop/rap/reggae.

Now, if I am shopping for clothing or Christmas, I like music also and do it in a much more leisurely fashion. What I don't like is cranky children, so I try to do my leisurely shopping at times when the children are most likely to be at home. I know that many mom's can't afford to hire a sitter every time they go shopping, so I am not complaining about that per se.

Con. It is usually too loud for me to stand it, and the wrong kind. I don't go in. Hollister was horrible, you could hear it all over the Mall. It is not in business there any more. Yay!!
