Phila burbs. 511k right now and counting.
There were about 800k during Sandy, to compare.
This is just one power company, there are others in the area that are reporting numbers in the thousands to add to that total.
Storm 2 of 3 for us this week.

Good luck Marianne. Ice is a nasty thing. Snow is bad enough, but ice destroys so much.

That is the worst part of storms... no power ESPECIALLY when it is cold! I hope the power comes on soon for all those poor souls back East. Before the cold air sweeps in!

we had ice storms overnight and we are still getting freezing rain. lots of power outages, wires down, and branches and trees that have fallen. schools were closed for today. thank goodness we did not lose power......everything LOOKS beautiful covered in ice, but it is definitely dangerous. our 2 sump pumps are definitely working overtime!
stay safe everyone!

No power is the absolute worst and we've been lucky so far (crossing my fingers). You never realize how much you miss power till it's gone and being rural, when we lose it, its usually at least for 7-10 days. We all have portable generators but that gets old too.
Stay safe and warm. And hopefully this weekend storm that may or may not be materializing just goes away. Bring on spring!

Doesn't it make you wonder (and appreciate what we now have) how our forefathers got on before we had power and all the conveniences it provides. We are so spoiled, and most people aren't prepared to do without power for even a relatively short period of time. In the north (and this year, much of the south too) you really need to have a back up source of heat at least. Whether that is a generator, kerosene heaters and fuel or a wood stove and wood supply, more and more people who would never consider it years ago, are getting on board with these backups.
Hope all in the latest effected areas stay safe and power gets back up soon.
