My daughter, son-in-law and young daughters are moving to DE County next year.  They are both in medical field so make good money.  Any recommendations on nice areas that are diverse (mixed race family) and have a good school district?  She's checked online for demographics but it's nice to hear from folks that know the areas firsthand.  Thanks!

oops, you didn't list which state.  Many states have a Delaware County.

I didn't see County. I was thinking Delaware (State) where the Big guy is from and where a few of my cousins live.

@Carmie  you taught me something today Friday. Googled Delaware County and didn't realize there were so many.

Re: Moving to Delaware County

I know where Delaware County is in PA.  We call it Delco.  It is close to Philadelphia and seems to be a nice area.

I live about two hours away, so I am not familiar with the area on an intimate basis, but when we drive through, it seems very nice.

I hope your daughter and her family enjoys it here in PA.

It has to start with a decision about commuting times for the parents. Nothing affects family life more than parents who are always on the road or train.

@Natureluvr   I live in Delaware County, PA.  Moved here from Philadelphia PA several years ago.  Like any large county, the neighborhoods run the gamut of people straddling the poverty line and therefore all that comes with it, crime, drugs, etc., to very high end expensive homes that I could never afford, high property taxes and great schools. So it depends on the township.  I live in Havertown in Haverford township which is the best that I can do financially and it is a nice area.  I live in a condominium that was once an apartments complex.  Different races live here in this community and there are no issues that I am aware of. Schools are good, low crime and clean and safe, but mostly older and smaller homes, so more affordable. If you do a search on the name of the township in Delco, you probably can get the answers you are looking for.

Another vote for Havertown.  The schools are some of the best. We own a second home in Woodmere Park and love the area.

@Natureluvr  I have not lived in Delco in years, but the better school districts are Wallingford-Swarthmore and Garnet Valley.  If think that Radnor and St. David's are also part of Delco.  Of course, they are also near Chester County, which would be my preference.  If they will be working in a hospital, the Media area is nice, has lots of restaurants in town, and that is where the court house is.  Both of the school districts that I mentioned are nearby.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!
