Movies? How about a multi-season subtitled series??????
I have watched all 3 seasons of the Italian subtitled series Gomorrah. I sure wish it was "dubbed." The only advantage for me is that.....
Il mio italiano è migliorato.

I don't mind subtitles at all. I've watched many great foreign films with subtitles, and after a while I don't even notice any double-duty. It seems to all flow very nicey.

Generally, I don’t like movies with subtitles. However, I find that I need them for some shows, especially some of the British shows. It’s really hard for me to understand them, and follow the plot, with their accents and fast-paced speech.

I don't mind them as an aid; in fact sometimes I wish Call the Midwife had them (sometimes some of the characters are very difficult to understand.) I just don't like to have to depend on them throughout an entire show or movie.

I can deal with subtitles if the movie is on a large screen. Our local university runs film festivals and many of the entries are foreign movies with subtitles that are projected on a large, forty foot screen. It makes for a great experience and I have no trouble keeping up. However, I've tried to watch foreign movies at home and just can't do it. If you ever have the opportunity to see a foreign film on a large screen, try it. To me foreign films are so real. Most of the actors and actresses look just like you and me and the stories often reflect real life.

Most of the time I have no problem with subtitles.

I have subtitles on all the time so I can “hear “every word.
Even when hearing wasn’t an issue I had no problem with subtitles—used to see a lot of foreign movies in art houses.

You did better than I would have. I won't even start a movie that has subtitles. A time a two, I have purchased an On Demand and found out it has subtitles and I just let it go. Even if I did waste my money. If want to read....I will read a book. The only exception was a British police story I watched. It was set in Wales and when the characters were speaking Welsh, they used English subtitles. However, that was done sparingly. I suppose for authenticity. Maybe 25% of the show is in Welsh with English subtitles.

You miss out on some really wonderful films if you won’t watch subtitles. It also helps with learning new words or cementing your prior experience with foreign languages.
I’m usually glad I made the effort.
