Weren't you worried that he might charge at the car?  He's beautiful, but powerful!!

I have not heard of one charging a car here in the village. Our wild animals are "street smart" since they are aware and live with humans and vehicles. He was showing us who is in charge. He left when he was ready and not a second before.  We were very respectful and eased closer to him. The cars traveling in the opposite direction were able to pass at a slow speed.

I would not have left the safety of the car to get a better photo. An elk bull during rut is not something I want to anger.

Thank you for mentioning his attitude. I saw the same thing. When you zoom in on his head, you can see his expression clearly.

@On It I always love to see your photos.  We have lots of wildlife as I live "in the country" but yours is so different and something I don't get to see (and stop for) daily.  Thank you for posting!

Thank you. I enjoy sharing and am glad you enjoy the photos.

What a beautiful creature. I would have waited as long as he needed, enjoying every moment.

@On It   What fantastic pictures!  I love them.  That buck appears to be staying, I'll move when I'm good and ready!"   I, too, would wait and just admire him.

Thanks for posting.

I love him!:heart,

I always look forward to your pictures too @On It!

I hope those dark spots on him are part of his fur and not some kind of buck shot? Probably not I hope?!

Re: Morning Roadblock Photos

@on the bay You were correct in thinking the spots were part of his winter coat that is forming. The elk were slick and shiny all during the summer. They are beginning to look a little shaggy as temperatures drop. Today, our morning low was 37.
