Re: More $, Less Family Time?

It ALL depends on the individuals, not studies of this or that or them.  There are folks who work their hands off and never have riches.

Some people (many in fact) don't want to spend 'family time' in their off hours.  It's just not their cup of tea, not their thing.  It depends on the indivuduals.

I see people out with their families and friends but each is wrapped up in their cell phone so maybe we have a new culture with a different perspective on quality time.I can understand working long hours to get ahead but when you are with people in person then I think you should give them your attention.

Can I get an "AMEN"!

Time with family is limited for most everyone, with work, school, volunteering, church, camps, sports etc. etc. Then you see a family at a restaurant or a public event and what are they doing? Each one with their nose buried in an electronic device, not communicating with each other or anyone else around them.

I begin to wonder what the point of even having a family is for so many of these people.

I guess it depends on what one would think 'better'. I've had more fun at the cheapest and off the cuff kind of places/events than those that cost thousands and thousands of dollars to accomplish.

Re: More $, Less Family Time?

some people are considered "workaholics" when in reality, they love what they do.  I think there's room for it all if you want a family, a nice home and you want to spend your days earning it in a career that makes you happy.  Im successful but I consider myself successful because I work to achieve balance, quality time to spend with my family, a nice home that I enjoy being in, a good education for my children among many other things they need and want, and when I'm working, I love what I do.  I think it's the balance of these that define success.  Sometimes you have to trade off one thing to add to another, but ultimately, go for a balance.
