Isn't there piriformis release surgery?

@Justice4all, there is such a thing as surgery: this condition affects a lot of dancers, so while it is being studied, the surgery itself is iffy.....

I am going into week 4 of this, but my bigger concern is the herniated disk and leg numbness. If this goes on a couple of more weeks, I will be considering a discectomy: I really don't want to do that.

I am getting a little better every day-I am looking on the bright side.

One thing that really helps is sitting in a hard chair with a ramrod straight back-my spine does not touch the back of the chair.

Also I do stretches to loosen up....I am making progress: I am just impatient!

Hugs,

Poodlepet2

@Poodlepet2

i understand that herniated discs may heal themselves.  I hope this happens with you!  Hugs, Justice

I know someone who had surgery where the disc was popped out, shaved down so as not to press on the nerve, with immediate release from pain.  In any case the fact that you feel improvement is a very good sign that the disc will heal itself.

I just read that, although very painful, piriformis syndrome is not serious and does not need surgery.  It may be a one time.  There are exercises that are supposedly very helpful, but I wouldn't want you to exacerbate your disc.
