Mockingbirds Mimicking my Wind Chimes...

[ Edited ]

I have a nest of mockingbirds in my large rhododendron bush located at the front of my wrap around porch right near entrance to the house.   I also have a lovely melodic Valerie Paar Hill wind chime hanging on the front porch.  Since I live near the bay, there's usually a breeze or wind and the wind chimes them fairly often.

Mockingbirds are known to mimic sounds, and I believe this particular male is doing just that!  It's amazing to see and hear him.

Now I know why, when we 'mock' someone, we are 'mocking' them, similar to the way mocking birds 'mock' your chimes.

If that makes any sense to anyone......

@ciao_bella Thank you for sharing. I have a special fondness for mockingbirds. What they choose to imitate is almost always something pleasant. We decided one was mocking a cell phone ring. We would hear a phone, but could never find the source. There was a mockingbird that frequented our backyard. We think he was the source.

Re: Mockingbirds Mimicking my Wind Chimes...

Very cool.   I love to hear mockingbirds go through their repertoire.  We have some in the pasture areas and I like to sit in the swing there and listen to all the sounds around me.  Love when the mockingbirds are singing.

We also have a crow that caws:  "Who Yaaa"  and his offspring do variations of that.

Guess it doesn't take much to entertain me.....

We had Mocking Birds mimic car alarms, and cell hone rings.  Poor things.

I'm going to Google search the sound of a mockingbird.

I haven't yet seen or heard one.

Great thread, btw!

Re: Mockingbirds Mimicking my Wind Chimes...

Update:  I just heard the sound of a mockingbird on YouTube!

Actually, I believe there is one in our neighborhood that sits on various rooftops each morning.

Sounds and looks similar to the YouTube mockingbird.

Very pleasant to listen (to).  Heart

🕊  We have a generous variety of birds inhabiting our neighborhood after land was cleared for a new development. When we sit outdoors in the evening, it sounds as though some of the birds are actually speaking. I thought perhaps old age was creeping in far to early, but hopefully this might explain it!

Now I need to purchase a set of wind chimes since we are fortunate to have a nice breeze coming off the lake.
