@SouthernBee wrote:@SharkE : The bottom part of my driveway is somewhat steep but thankfully DH can still get mail- I can't walk down the driveway. But in 2015 DH health issues prevented him getting the mail. The doctor provided a form from the post office and his written statement about our disability to request permission to put a mail box at our door to have mail delivered. We were told to get a post office box. We had the doctors request submitted for us as individuals and finally as a couple and all request were denied. We miss our retired postman because daily he would bring all the mail and packages directly to our front door - ring the bell and put everything in the chair next to the front door. I have signed up for emails of daily mail delivery.Southern Bee
@SouthernBee if your both seniors and had Dr.'s slip why was it denied, wonder?

@SharkE : Told to get post office box and not enough carriers to make special deliveries and slows the carrier down making delivery. Hate to wait in line at the post office and no one answers the phone. If we wait in line- then told to call someone else just going in circles. Southern Bee

@SouthernBee you have to pay for post office boxes don't you?

@SharkE : Yep- pay for PO Box - so no help for disabled people. Southern Bee

Wasn't this a Seinfeld episode? Neuman was stashing mail in a broom closet because he was too stressed to deliver it.

@SouthernBee if your disabled and /or old how you gonna drive to post office, then, get out , go up steps and go in post office, go back down steps and in all kinds of weather.
What my DH said.............

I've been in my house for 27 years and our mail has always been delivered at 5:30 pm ish. We are the end of the route and many days we do not get mail. I suspected for many years that he/she runs out of time and adds it to the next day's mail.
This was confirmed once they rolled out Informed Delivery. I see what mail is due that day and it shows up the next day (or the third day). Every day I click the button that says "didn't receive this." Not sure what that does, but I click it anyway.
I suspect many have called or done something to get this resolved because just before the holidays, I noticed I was getting mail delivered at 9 am.
So they either changed our route or split our route now that they have added more developments to our community.

@SharkE : My DH said the same thing. DH had surgery three weeks ago and didn't feel like getting the mail yesterday. According to the informed mail notice I was suppose to receive some tax information. DH got the mail today and that mail was not included- maybe it will be delivered Monday ??? Getting old is not fun. We have a young military couple moved in next door. They wave and say hello but keep to themselves and are very quiet. Have new neighbors on the other side and across the street but they work and are never home. Things have changed with neighbors and no kids to pay to help with mail. The newspaper is delivered to the front door and we have contact with the people and give them good tips. Southern Bee

We all will have to face one day when it's time to go to assisted living then we'll go to nursing home if we're lucky enough not to die first in our sleep, or by heart attack.
One good thing about the whole situation is no more worrying about buying insurance, maintenance expenses, just all the worries of living in general.
Taxes, etc.

Well, I'm just wondering why that postal worker bothered to rent a storage unit to store the undelivered mail in. He would never have gotten caught if he had just burnt it in a fire pit or fireplace. Not saying I condone what he was doing..Just saying keeping it in a storage unit in his name was a little stupid.
