I complained for years about our horrible mail service.  About two years ago, in the month of April, we received a bundle of mail that should have been delivered in December. 

No explanation. No apology. Just a large bundle of mail. Wonder where they found it.....

My regular mailman is reasonably good, considerate and conscientious, but woe are the days he's off and we get a substitute... The mail comes so late they might as well not bother and often it appears they don't. It's pretty obvious, they'll often stick one piece of mail in the box to make it look as though they did the run, but the next day, when the regular guy is back, the box will be loaded. Clearly they left most of it in the mail room for him to sort and deliver upon his return. Once, one of the subs was literally railing while standing at the postal pick up box in my condo lobby, just going off about having to cover someone else's run...

The mail  in our city is horrible. Constantly getting other people's mail delivered to our house which I for the life of me can't understand.  I do think since our house is at the end of this one postal worker's route, that she just drops it off for us.  Also, in our news, we've had two separate incidents in the past year or so where a postal worker quit his job and just dumped the mail on the side of the road.  Those large mail buckets were just lying on the roadside for anyone to go through.  People were angry.  I wonder if any of my qvc packages were there.  I've had two clothing items that never showed.

I just had this happen this week. I bought a new vehicle andmy Registration was transfered to the new one. Informed Delivery showed it was coming that day and...nope.......all the junk mail did though.

I did eventually get it....but being it was something IMPORTANT makes it fishy....

The larger boxes are for packages.  A key with a matching number is left in your mail box to indicate which box has your package.

You open the larger box, get your package, close it and leave the key back out in the key slot.

Only the smaller boxes are used for regular mail

These are really small, though.   In my area I've had packages in my regular slot if sent in soft packaging or if the boxed item was super small. 

With the volume of mail decreasing every year, it is no surprise to see these being used more and more.

That fire hydrant is in an odd spot.  lol

An organization I belong to recently reached out to me via email for an updated mailing address as mail had been returned to them as being undeliverable due to an unknown address. The address on the envelope was fine. I was sent an image of the returned mail and headed to the post office with it. Their supervisor checked with my mail carrier who couldn't explain what had happened, but assured me that my mail was all being delivered. The thing is you truly don't know if it is or isn't unless those sending it ask questions when it's returned. I get less mail these days than I did in the past,  but is that because I'm doing more online, or is mail not being delivered? You just don't know.

With so many companies urging online payments, it's no wonder smaller mailboxes grouped together are becoming the norm.

Even Social Security will only mail a check under certain circumstances.

Less mail, less theft, and the days of the mail person walking up to your home are obsolete in most cases.

This is what we have in my neighborhood. The P.O. requires builders of new developments to install these. I will say it works very well for us. If the package is too big for the large box the mail carrier delivers it to the front door. We have only 65 homes in my neighborhood and mostly senior citizens. If someone is unable to walk to the mail boxes or to drive another neighbor gets their mail for them. It's not a big inconvenience.
